Summary
After tons of rumors, including teases from the team themselves,Palworldis officially coming toPlayStation 5. What’s more, the game is out right now.As revealed during Tuesday’s State of Play presentation, the Pocketpair developed breakout title is officially on PS5.
The release on PS5 brings a bit of good news for the game. Recently,Nintendo sued Pocketpair over patent infringements, allegig that the game “infringes multiple patent rights.“Nintendo announced the joint lawsuit viaa post on the Nintendo Japan website.
That suit was filed on September 18, and in the time since, the Palworld community began to rally around Pocketpair. Over on the game’s subreddit, many gamers echoed their support for the team, along with other signs of support throughout social media.
Prior to that,Pocketpair found itself in a bit of a pickle when a prior interview was misconstrued online. In that interview, which apparently took place months ago, Pocketpair discussed some of the challenges it had been facing in maintaining Palworld’s popularity.
There, CEO Takuro Mizobe mulled the possibility of shifting Palworld into a free-to-play title with live-service elements as a means of extending the game’s lifespan, as well as increasing its profitability. However, that will not be the case, with Pocketpair affirming that the game will remain a buy-to-play title.
Originally released in January,Palworld became an instant sensation overnight, selling millions of copies and players on PC and Xbox flocked to the game in droves. In particular, the game managed to achieve a peak 24-hour concurrent on Steam of 2.1 million, which was good enough for second place all-time before the release of Black Myth Wukong.
With Steam numbers dwindling, a release on PS5 might just be the shot in the arm that the game needs. Palworld’s shadowdrop was just one of several announcements that headlined Tuesday’s long-rumored State of Play,as Astro Bot DLC was also part of the presentation.
