Summary
In the run-up toPersona 3 Reload’s launch, many were disappointed to find out that thefemale protagonist from Portablewouldnot be in the remake. This was despitePortablegetting a re-release just a year prior to Reload’s launch, leaving many eager to play as her in the full remake.
Now, it turns out that the devs heard these calls, and almost added the female protagonist as DLC.Speaking with TheGamer’s Meg Pelliccio, Persona 3 Reload’s general producer Kazuhisa Wada admitted that the team looked into adding the female route, but scrapped it because it would take up too much time and resources.
Atlas Isn’t Working On Female Protagonist DLC For Persona 3 Reload
“Unfortunately, a female protagonist will not appear in [Persona 3 Reload],” says Wada.
He continues, explaining that the character was considered as DLC while the team worked on the final expansion, Episode Aigis. “Back when we were fully planning to do Episode Aigis, we had also considered a female protagonist, but the more we looked at the details, the more unlikely it became.
“The development time and cost would have not been manageable, and due to the nature of the content, it’s difficult to entrust this externally. Even if P3R and Expansion Pass were to sell far beyond our expectations, the actual release would be a long way off from now.”
So, this shoots down the idea of Atlas doing yet another DLC further down the line that adds the female story path to Persona 3 Reload. This likely means that Persona 3 Portable will continue to be the only way to play as the character.
This also means that Episode Aigis will indeed be the final DLC for Persona 3 Reload. Wada apologies for this, but says that any further DLC for the game would have to be released “right now” to capitalise on player interest.
