Summary

One of the best things about thePokemonseries is thatpretty much every weird little creature in the series has a fan. No matter how weird or creepy a Pokemon is, there’s someone out there that has a special place in their heart for it. However, no matter how much someone loves a Pokemon, there has to be a most popular and least popular Pokemon in the entire series, and that’s something one YouTuber set out to find.

Thomas Game Docs figured out which Pokemon was the least popular way back in 2022 using Google Search data, revealing thatpoor little Watchog was the most forgettable Pokemon out there. There’s only so much info you can get from Google Search though, as Thomas Game Docs returned earlier this week witha new method of finding out the popularity of every single Pokemon in the series.

Umbreon is running along a beach.

In their latest video, they explain that they created a website that allowed users to vote between two random Pokemon, and then stuffed every single Pokemon with its own Pokedex number into the website, excluding regional variants. Over 1,000 Pokemon were included in the website, which then began tallying votes to see which Pokemon was voted for the most. At the end of the project, the website amassed a whopping 1,608,153 votes.

This then allowed Thomas Game Docs to create a list of Pokemon ranked on popularity, which they then talk about at length in their video, revealing the top and bottom 20 entries in the list. While the bottom 20 is quite understandable, with some of the ugliest designs in the entire series making the cut, it’s interesting that the previously maligned Watchog wasn’t actually dead last. That accolade went to Rellor, a gross little dung beetle that admittedly evolves into the much more useful Rabsca.

It’s when Thomas Game Docs reveals the top 20 most popular Pokemon that things get interesting. We won’t reveal the whole list here to avoid spoiling the entire video, but Pokemon’s very own mascot, Pikachu, doesn’t even scratch the top 50, as he’s sat all the way down in 65th. Instead, the Pokemon that apparently is the most popular one in the entire series is none other than Umbreon,Eevee’s edgy little evolution.

While this may seem surprising, Thomas Game Docs points out that Umbreon’s status as the first ever pure Dark type in the series may have given it a leg up, along with its cute yet cool design, as well as its inclusion as a partner in Pokemon Colloseum. That also tracks too, as Espeon also manages to crack the top 10. There are plenty of other surprises in there too, so if you want to know how popular your favorite Pokemon is, it’s definitely worth a full watch.
