Summary

PlayStationrevealed some rather underwhelming products to celebrate the upcoming 30th anniversary of its original console, although the board game looks pretty fun. If you were convinced that there would be bigger and better stuff to come, you’d be right. PlayStation has announced a collection that includes a digitalPS5and the upcoming PS5 Pro, all of which have been designed to pay homage to the very first PlayStation.

Pre-orders for everything in the 30th-anniversary collection will begin on August 01, 2025, so the same day as pre-orders open for the regular PS Pro model exclusively through PlayStation Direct. If you already own a PS5 and don’t fancy forking out hundreds of dollars for a new one, but you still like the look of the new collection, there are other things included. ThePlayStation Portal, which has only been available in white up until now, has also been given a grey makeover to celebrate PlayStation’s 30th birthday.

Perhaps the best news of all for people like me who love the look of these new PlayStation products but want to spend as little as possible, theDualSensethat comes bundled with the digital PS5 will be available to buy separately. If the Astro Bot controller is anything to go by, the controller will likely sell out fast. PlayStation has noted everything in the collection will be available “while supplies last” which presumably means they won’t be restocked once everything has sold out.

The Collection Includes Consoles, Controllers, And Accessories

The Newest PlayStation Cosplaying As The Oldest PlayStation

Rounding out the collection is a special edition DualSense Edge. Much like the Portal, the more complex PS5 controller has only been available in a very limited choice of colors, so seeing it included in this collection is great news. The homage to the original PlayStation goes beyond making everythingPS1-grey. “PlayStation 30th Anniversary” is printed on the back of the Portal, and the USB-C connectors on the DualSense’s wires have been given plastic cases to make them look like the ones that plugged into the OG PlayStation.

If you do plan on going the whole hog with this collection, the digital PS5 will come with a regular DualSense, while the Pro will come with the DualSense Edge. The anniversary edition of the Pro will be limited to 12,300 units, and each console will be numbered, making it truly unique to you. The digital edition’s bundle will also come with a grey console cover so your detachable disc drive doesn’t look out of place, though you will still have to buy the drive itself separately for $79.99.
