A few weeks later, Feteke got word that some of his stolen goods had been recovered in Barrie, a city in central Ontario. As the story goes, two men arrived at OMG Games Store in Barrie trying to sell off valuable Pokémon cards. A discerning employee quickly realised that these cards matched up with the list of stolen cards from Newmarket, and so, despite the tense circumstances, the store employees managed to hatch a plan in secret.

Owner Rick Bates contacted Feteke and the York Regional Police, informing them that the potential thieves had entered the store and were attempting to sell the stolen cards. The only thing left to do was to keep the suspects in the store until the police arrived, so, the store employees just kept talking.

“I was talking about concerns about counterfeits,” Bates said. “[My colleague] was just doing small talk, keeping them distracted. Overall, the employees managed to stall for 40 minutes until the police arrived and arrested the two men. According to the police, while they had stolen property, there isn’t any evidence linking them to the burglary itself. The police are still trying to recover the other stolen goods, valued at over $100k.

After getting his cards back, Feteke and his team cherished the small victory, saying “Everyone here also got to celebrate for the first time in a couple of weeks, so it was really nice.”
