Summary

Pokemon’srecent leaks have thrown up some absolutely wild stories in recent days.Typhlosion went from being public enemy number one, tocompletely vindicated againin almost a matter of hours, while it seems as though Game Freak toyed with the idea ofputting Lady Gaga’s song Born This Way into Pokemon X & Y. Concept art, scrapped evolutions, anddetails surrounding future projectshave all leaked on social media.

The absurdity just keeps coming too, as it was recently claimedby Twitter user Centro Leaks- one of the primary sources for all of this nonsense - that Game Freak allegedly used a fan-made Minecraft recreation of Hoenn to help develop Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire. This creation wasmade by a Reddit user called Bidoof_King, and was shared on the Pokemon subreddit 11 years ago.

Pokemon Fan’s Minecraft Hoenn Recreation Was Reportedly Used To Develop ORAS

The post is a single image of a Minecraft version of around half of Hoenn, and it’s this image that Game Freak apparently used as part of a mock-up for the game’s flying mechanics. In the image shared by Centro Leaks, we can see Bidoof_King’s Minecraft creation on the top screen with a boy flying a Latios pasted over the top, while the bottom screen shares a more traditional map of Hoenn.

Of course, this mock-up was never intended to see the light of day, and was most likely used as a placeholder while artists were working on official material. It very clearly looks like someone at Game Freak simply used the map as a proof of concept, rather than for anything particularly nefarious, and the actual birds' eye view we got of Hoenn in Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire looks nothing like Bidoof_King impressive recreation.

In fact, despite the post that was used being 11 years old,Bidoof_King themselves has since commented on this revelation, explaining that they’re “blown away by this” and that it “made their day”, so no harm no foul. It’s just yet another interesting insight into how development works over at Game Freak - something we’ve been getting a lot of recently - and a little reminder that Game Freak absolutely sees what you post on Reddit, so be on your best behavior.
