Summary
It’s been almost three weekssince Game Freak was hackedandPokemon’s deepest, darkest secrets started to tumble out onto the internet. The leaks keep on coming too with some big reveals made during the last 24 hours. One of those reveals is that there were plans to introduce an eighth Eevee evolution, but similarities between Pokemon’s design and one created by a fan led to the Eeveelution being shelved.
Shared byCentro Leaks, notes that are claimed to be a part of the Game Freak leak mention plans for a Flying-type Eeveelution that are currently “on hold”. The new Eevee evolution was going to be introduced during Gen 7, so viaPokemon Sun & Moon, but Game Freak opted not to move forward with its inclusion after someone pointed out that its design for the new Pokemon was too similar to one a fan had already created.
The leaked note mentions the potential “high cost” of including a Flying-type Eeveelution that closely resembles a fanmade design and cited that as the reason for shelving it. Although it appears to sign off by suggesting it will revisit the design in the future, the note is dated June 20, 2025, meaning it has been more than a decade since the Flying-type Eevee evolution was shelved and this is the first thing we’ve ever heard about it.
Trying To Design It Ourselves May Have Cost Us
That doesn’t mean plans for a Flying-type Eeveelution have been ditched forever.Pokemon fans have been expecting Eevee’s evolved forms to be expanded upon, especially after the usual pattern of new Eeveelutions being introduced every two generations came to an end with Gen 6. Flying-type or not, there’s a strong chance a new type of Eevee evolution will be introduced via Gen 10. Four generations will have passed since the last new Eeveelution by that point, the longest gap between them by far.
As for what Pokemon’s Flying-type Eeveelution might have looked like, if it was scrapped due to looking too much like a fanmade design that gained enough traction that it landed on Game Freak’s radar, there’s a very real chance you’ve already seen it. If there is ever going to be a Flying-type Eeveelution, it will likely be a completely reworked design so that it doesn’t resemble the old design.
More information about Pokemon’s past and future will likely be revealed over the coming days as everyone sifts through the latest batch of leaks. The Flying-type Eeveelution is joined by what appears to be a reveal ofwhich starter Pokemon you’ll have to choose from in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
