Summary
There were a lot of threads left dangling afterPokemonX/Y — who was the ghost girl in Lumiose City? What’s behind the locked doors in the power plant? Since we haven’t been back to Kalos yet, these questions still linger, but Game Freak seemingly had plans to return to the region with two DLC packs until they were cancelled.
This discovery was made by leaker Pory who is still digging throughthe enormous Game Freak hackthat was posted online over the weekend. It’s unclear what the DLC would have entailed, but perhaps it would have unravelled Zygarde’s story further and taken us to the long-speculated South Kalos.
There’s certainly weight to that idea given that leaks yesterday also revealed thatGame Freak scrapped plans for a South Kalos portion of the map. Perhaps the region was cut to be used in a future DLC that never saw the light of day. We don’t know yet, but Pory has just reached the 30GB Pokemon X/Y staff folders portion of the leak which includes concept art and assets, so maybe we’ll find out more soon enough.
Older Leaks Revealed That Pokemon X/Y Sequels Were Cancelled, Too
The most underrated Pokemon gen just can’t catch a break. Four years ago, leaks surfaced that sequels — or at the very least, updated versions a la Platinum and Emerald — were at onepoint planned for Pokemon X/Y.
Fans speculated at the time that the new game would be called ‘Pokemon Z’, focusing on the afformentioned legendary Zygarde. After all, they appeared in the next set of games, Sun & Moon. The theory goes that rather than scrapping all of its work, Game Freak instead carried over Zygarde’s story from its cancelled game into the next generation.
Whatever the case, we’re finally going back to Kalos after over ten yearswith Pokemon Legends: Z-A, so in a roundabout way, Pokemon Z is finally happening after all.
