Summary
By now you’ve likely heard the news that the team atUbisoft Montpellier, the group behindPrince of Persia: The Lost Crown, has been officially disbanded. News of their disbandmentcame after reports suggested that the team had pitched expansions and sequels to its Metroidvania title.
As a result, Ubisoft has shifted developers to “other projects that will benefit from their expertise,“according to a statement provided to Eurogamer. In that same Eurogamer report, Ubisoft seemingly did not contradict reports that a Lost Crown sequel was not greenlit due to poor commercial success.
Now,in a new statement shared on Twitter, Senior Producer Abdelhak Elguess has taken the time to thank fans for supporting the title, while also affirming that Ubisoft still has future plans for the Prince of Persia franchise.
“I’m extremely proud of our team’s work and passion at Ubisoft Montpellier to create a game that resonated with players and critics alike, and I am confident in its long-term success,” the statement read in part. “… We know players have a love for this brand and Ubisoft is excited to bring more Prince of Persia experiences in the future.”
The Future Of Prince Of Persia Is Somewhat Murky
Perhaps the most interesting note about the statement is that it affirms that Ubisoft is committed to multiple Prince of Persia “experiences.” However, as it stands, the only experience that gamers are aware of is the beleagueredSands of Time Remakeand theRogue Prince of Persia.
That remake, which was initially slated for a 2021 release, though that ultimately never came to pass. At Ubisoft Forward in June,Ubisoft re-revealed the game, this time with a 2026 release. Outside of that,The Rogue Prince of Persia is still in Early Access. A full release has not been determined.
