Echoes of Wisdomis a lot less linear than other 2D Zelda games, with plenty of optional content you can do in any order. This means that no two playthroughs of this new Zelda title will be identical.

While you can approach Echoes of Wisdom however you’d like to have a play experience tailored to your style, there are also some key pieces of advice to follow to ensure you’re having a more effective and efficient playthrough. So, what tips should you keep in mind to play Echoes of Wisdom like a pro?

7Prioritize Energy And Sword For The Sword Of Might

Strategic Use Of Might Crystals

There are plenty of different ways to make Zelda more powerful as you explore the world of Echoes of Wisdom, and one of the most effective and tactile methods of empowering Hyrule’s princess is by collecting and spending Might Crystals.

The Sword of Might turns Echoes of Wisdom into a straight-up action game, and lets Zelda join the fray directly, but when you get it, energy is limited, and the attacks will get weaker the further you get into the game.

ensure to prioritize spending your Might Crystals on leveling up the sword’s energy and then the power of the sword strikes before worrying about the bow and bomb upgrades.

6Save The Optional Rifts For Later

Cleaning Up Every Corner Of Hyrule

Throughout your tour of Hyrule, you’ll be forced to fix certain large rifts to the Still World as part of the game’s story, but you won’t clean up all of them, and there are still plenty of optional rifts hidden off the beaten path. These are platforming puzzles, so you don’t have to worry about your combat Echoes being scaled to the difficulty, and fixing these rifts will power up the Tri Rod quicker than just following the story.

The best time to explore the map for optional rifts is after the fourth dungeon. At this point the map will open up for uninhibited exploration, and this is the best time to make Tri more powerful before dungeon puzzles get more finicky. Having access to lower-cost Echoes and more of Tri’s power will be massively helpful.

5Get The Lynel Echo Before Entering The Final Boss Rush

The Best Combat Echo

As you work throughout most of the story in Echoes of Wisdom, you’ll have a choice of combat Echoes to use on Zelda’s behalf, but you’ll notice the most powerful Echoes are hidden in exclusive locations that will prove a challenge to beat, but then reward you with a strong Echo you’re able to use.

The best Echo you’re able to get like this is the fearsome Lynel (a worry-inducing name forBreath of the Wildveterans) and there is only one in the game to beat, so you can get its Echo. Hidden in late-game area, the Eternal Forest, follow the tracks you find in the mud to reach the terrifying beast and attempt to take it down. This Echo will prove useful for the final boss when Zelda will rely solely on Echoes, since she won’t have the Sword of Might.

4Use An Outfit With A Buff

Don’t Waste Your Outfit

It’s made immediately clear that accessories are one of the most important ways to give Zelda different buffs, especially since smoothies only give you temporary bonuses. It’s well worth collecting the best accessories you’re able to, but what isn’t made obvious is thatclothing isn’t just aesthetic.

While most of Zelda’s outfits are only cosmetic, there are two main outfits that will help Zelda in more tactile ways. Go out of your way to get the Dancing Outfit and Silk Pajamas, which will give you a bigger spin radius and increased bed healing speed, respectively.

3Change Out Accessories Mid-Fight

No Need To Wait Until Later

One of the most frustrating features in certain action games is being locked into your building during combat. It’s incredibly annoying going into combat and realizing you haven’t got the right items equipped and not being able to switch them out until you die, or the encounter is over.

However, Echoes of Wisdom has no such problem, and you can freely pause the game to heal, but more importantly, switch up your accessories. Certain bosses will spring surprises on you, like quicksand or underwater combat, so make sure to switch up your accessories to give you buffs in these fields.

2Save Your Rupees

Spend Wisely

When you reach the Great Fairy cave on Lake Hylia, it’s easy to decide to donate all your money to increase how many accessories you may equip at once, but after the first upgrade, this permanent buff can start to get pricey.

Instead, get the first upgrade from the Great Fairy when you run into her during the first half of the game, since 100 Rupees will likely be affordable at this point.

After this, don’t return for the next upgrades until the second half of the game (after the fourth dungeon). By this point, you’ll have enough useful accessories to justify needing more than two equipped at once, and the higher cost should be more affordable, especially if you’re selling unused collectibles and smoothies.

1Use Automatons

Keep Zelda Busy

One system of combat that is completely optional, and easy to miss if you’re willing to ignore Dampe, are automatons. These robotic creatures are unlocked by completing Dampe’s questline, and there are six in total.

These can be used simultaneously with Echoes, giving you extra forces in battle, and it’s worth unlocking them all as soon as possible, since once they break enough times, you’ll need to return to Dampe for a repair. This means the more you have, the longer you’ll be able to use them in more drawn-out bosses like the fight against Null.
