Summary

Project Rene has had a tumultuous introduction to the world. With the revelation that Project Rene wasn’tThe Sims 5and the subsequent revelation that The Sims 5 wasn’t being worked on at all, fans of Maxis' legendary life simulation series already weren’t too keen on Project Rene, even before any gameplay was revealed.

We’ve since seen a few screenshots from a playtest build of Project Rene, andfans weren’t inspired by what they saw. Project Rene has been drawing comparisons to The Sims Mobile in both aesthetics and monetisation. The most recent playtest didn’t feature a character creator and was instead focused on apartment decorating.

Our First Look At Create A Sim

The character creator is one of the most important aspects of the life simulation genre, and now data miners have uncovered a first look at Project Rene’s Create a Sim feature. It’s only a debug, but is still illustrative of what options players can expect to have at their disposal when creating their Sims.

You appear to be able to fine-tune your Sim’s body proportions, including height. There are sliders called ‘Fat Controls’ that allow the editing of body proportions, especially in the face. Everything else you might expect is also there: accessories, preset clothing options and so on. There also appear to be options for creating horses, which is neat.

The Sims Cover

Also uncovered were folders relating to ‘Garage Mode’ which appears to be the game’s story mode. Inside there is concept art of the game’s dual protagonists, Josie and Rachel.

There are also folders for The Hub (the playtesting area), The Marketplace (a section for DLC and paid content), Multiplayer (everything concerning the game’s multiplayer) and UGC (user-generated content). There’s also a ‘Live Mode’ that appears to be the primary mode of play and features several systems like weather, the ageing of Sims and so on.

Project Rene doesn’t have a release date yet, and considering this pre-release version has just been officially revealed, it’s probably a ways off.
