Summary

Leaks are pouring outfrom what is supposedly Project Rene’s closed playtest, the upcoming free-to-play, mobile and PC multiplayerSimsspin-off, revealing everything from a debug look at the Create a Sim menu to gameplay footage and how exactly the online systems works.

Premium Currency, Season Passes, Weekly Events, And More

The playtest reportedly focused on the Hub, a public space where you can join friends or random sessions with strangers. Not much was revealed about what EA has planned for this area, butdataminers dug deeper into the filesto uncover some interesting details.

Most notably, it will feature a marketplace. As you’d expect, this is where you’ll purchase DLC, and there’s a currency called “SimBucks” which leakers speculate will be used for microtransactions. We know from past leaks that there are daily quests and pre-designed outfits that you may purchase with a Sims-themed currency, so this certainly lines up.

They also found that Project Rene will include season passes. We don’t know what these will entail yet, but traditionally, buying a season pass guarantees that you’ll get upcoming DLC at a cheaper price. Some games sell several of these, often splitting years into different passes, and it’s likely Project Rene will follow suit.

The Hub will also reportedly feature weekly events, but again we don’t have much information on these.

Project Rene was long assumed to be The Sims 5 untilEA announced that it has no plans for a sequel. We haven’t heard much officially about the game yet outside of the clarification that it’s a Sims Online-inspired spin-off, not a main entry, and there’s still no release window. With that said, anything from these playtests could change before launch, so take these leaks with a grain of salt.
