Summary

PlayStation opened 30th anniversary pre-ordersat third party retailers last week and congratulations to any of you who managed to bag something from it as it didn’t stay in stock for long. That said, if you pre-ordered the anniversary edition of thePS5slim from Argos, you might want to check your emails as some who bought the console through the UK retailer have received notifications informing them their orders have been canceled.

According to IGN, multiple customers who pre-ordered thePS1-themed version of the slimmer PS5 received emails on Monday letting them know Argos would not be able to fulfill all of the orders, and that therefore they will no longer be receiving the console when it’s released next month. That naturally prompted many to get in touch with Argos to figure out what’s going on which has muddied the waters even further.

While some customers have reportedly been told this is all one big misunderstanding and that theirPlayStationpre-order status is still intact, others have been told that yes, the emails are correct and they should no longer expect to become the proud new owner of an anniversary PS5 on November 21. We reached out to Argos to try and clear things up, but the response we received hasn’t really helped.

We have received an update regarding the communication that was sent out and the update we have received is to advise customers to keep an eye on their order on their account in the recent order section as this will show the correct details and if the order has been cancelled and refunded or not.

Argos Has Been Cancelling 30th Anniversary PS5 Pre-Orders

One surefire way to know if your pre-order has been canceled is by checking your bank account. A canceled pre-order will mean a refund, and although it might not be instant, if the money you paid for your PS5 has magically returned to your bank account, odds are your pre-order has indeed been canceled. Particularly frustrating for anyone this has happened to as not only is the anniversary collection sold out pretty much everywhere, but there’s no word on whether it will ever be restocked.

As popular as PlayStation’s decision to pay homage to its original console via this collection has been, pre-orders for most of its items have been one big mess. It began with PlayStation refusing to reveal how much anything in the collection would cost, likely due to the backlash it received whenannouncing the PS5 Pro would cost $700.

Despite a $1,000 price tag, the PS5 Pro anniversary bundle was the most popular item in the collection. Limited to just 12,300 units, the bundles sold out fast and began reappearing on resale sites while some were still waiting in virtual queues at PlayStation Direct. Scalpersproceeded to list the bundles for as much as $10,000, and unfortunately, until PlayStation confirms otherwise, those who have had their pre-orders canceled may have to rely on resale sites if they want an anniversary PS5.
