PlayStation’spresence atTokyo Game Show 2024has been known for a while now, but it was always a puzzling one. Until a few days ago,Sony’sslate was pretty clear for the event, with onlyAstro Bot’srelease anywhere close to the late-September show. Even then, it’d have been out for a couple of weeks at that point and a lot of players would have already got their hands on it.
And, while Astro Bot’s appearance will be great, mainly because there will be aT-Shirt Gachapon machine for anybody who tries the demo, Sony has now confirmed the real reason it’s at the event — to show off the recently revealed PS5 Pro.
The PS5 Pro Will Be Playable On The Tokyo Game Show Showfloor
In a tweet from thePlayStation Japan Twitteraccount, Sony said, “The PlayStation booth will exhibit titles, stage information, and other details announced!PS5 Prowill be unveiled to the public for the first time in the world.”
Shortly after PlayStation’s tweet, Final Fantasy directorNaoki Hamaguchi confirmedthat the game being showcased on the Pro would be none other thanFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Hamaguchi-san said, “FFVII REBIRTH on PS5 Pro will be playable at the PlayStation booth at the Tokyo Game Show!”
Final Fantasy7 Rebirth is one of the games Sony has seemingly been pushing into media hands following the Pro’s announcement, with tech-centric YouTube channelDigital Foundryshowing the night and day differences between the two.
A Chance For Redemption For Sony
The initial reaction to the PS5 Pro wasnot good.People were unhappy with theconsole’s high price pointandlack of a disc drive, with thedetachable drive now being scalped. However, sentiment started to change a little yesterday, asSony revealed the new 30th anniversary consolesand accessories.
Tokyo Game Show presents a great opportunity for PlayStation to continue building momentum ahead of the console’s November 2024 launch, and it will be interesting to see how fan reaction is following the event.
