Summary
Between your cases inShadows of Doubt, you’ll want to have a place to call home. For every case you solve, you will earn money and social credit pointsused to purchase increasingly expensive apartments, from the lowly Fathoms to the lofty Echelons.
Apartments in Shadows of Doubt serve a variety of purposes. They can be used to store items, recover health, reduce status ailments, and stock up on supplies. Apartments can be decorated, allowing for freedom of player expression. Apartments can come in a variety of sizes and locations, but all from the same basic templates.
4Basement Studio Apartment
Starting a new game in Shadows of Doubt will generate an entire city, featuring multiple districts and zones of interest. Ads for apartments can be found on the same boards where jobs can be found. Basement apartments are among the cheapest apartments that will initially be available to you once you start the game. These apartments can be found in most residential buildings, alongside various utility rooms and black market shops. Most buildings will have some form of basement, and the basements in the especially run-down areas will be prone to flooding.
There are no views to be had here, as these apartments lack any and all windows. If cockroaches and leaking pipes don’t bother you, these apartments can be obtained at bargain prices, and offer a quick route to street level. They serve as a place to store your belongings and sleep, and for some players that will be all that they require.
3Studio Apartment
A step up from a lowly basement apartment, these basic studio apartments are in most ways similar to their subterranean counterparts. They can be found on the ground floor and up of apartment buildings. Despite being the same size as a basement apartment, these studio apartments offer natural lighting and still retain relatively quick access to street level.
The higher up you go in a building, the greater the security will be, but the highest levels will require a specific social credit score to access.
If you care about the appearance of your apartment, then it will be worth the price to decorate it. All apartments, once purchased, will initially start empty. Once you own an apartment, furniture and other decorations can be purchased from the menu and placed freely around the interior, allowing you to customize the space to your liking. These can serve a variety of functions, all beneficial to your character.
2Single Bedroom Apartment
For many players of Shadows of Doubt, this will be the most common type of apartment they will see for sale. It features a floor plan with multiple rooms, making it a large step up from the smaller studio apartments. Once you own one, your apartment can always be navigated to from the Case Board screen.
Any apartment better than these will require a hefty social credit score and an even heftier amount of cash, making these single-bedroom apartments an economical choice. The multiple rooms can be decorated to have various functions, such as placing vending machines to ensure a steady supply of tools is always readily available.
1Echelon Apartment
When your social credit is high enough, you’ll be able to enter Echelon areas. Social credit can be earned by completing cases, and can be used to unlock useful perks. Apartments located in Echelon areas vary in size, the largest of them taking up an entire building floor. These apartments are located on the highest floor of the apartment buildings where they are located.
Even the smallest of these apartments is still more spacious than the less expensive options. These are among the most expensive purchases available to you in the game, and can only be obtained with considerable effort. If you don’t mind a long elevator ride to the top, these are the most spacious of the apartments that can be purchased.
Otherwise, consider the Vigor SyncDisk which has the effect of removing fall damage.
