As the game was never released overseas, and 2008 was a relatively early time in mobile gaming, Deathly Mirror has become a rare find. In fact, preservationists previously only had access to the first three chapters, with the final three thought to be lost.

A Shocking Discovery

This has now changed due to the efforts ofYuviwho discovered a copy of the game on an old Fujitsu F906i phone that appears to be in avery rough shape.

Fellow game preservationist RockmanCosmoreported on the discoveryand added that a full English translation of the Mansion of the Deathly Mirror is in the works.

“All six chapters were found on a junk F906i. Previously, we only had the first three chapters. An English translation will happen in due time,” they said in a post on X. On the same phone, Yuvi discovered and preserved Mr Driller Aqua, an aquatic spin-off of the Mr Driller series.

Professor Layton and the Mansion of the Deathly Mirror takes place between Diabolical Box and Unwound Future and involves a dinner party held by a famous novelist who owns a mirror that allows people to speak to the dead. As the story progresses, the party host is found murdered and naturally, it falls to Hershel Layton and his sidekick Luke Triton to solve the mystery.

Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, the first Professor Layton title designed for the Nintendo Switch, is scheduled to release in 2025 and features a steampunk aesthetic.
