Summary
Nintendois reportedly asking third-party developers to head up work on remasters ahead of theSwitch2’s release, which reportedly includesRayman3: Hoodlum Havoc.
As every Rayman fan is painfully aware of, the last decade and a bit sinceRayman Legends launched in 2013 has been incredibly dry. 2023 made up for that a bit with thecharacter’s infamous reimagining in Captain Laserhawkand hisstarring role in Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope’s final DLC pack, but it’s far from what we were all asking for.
It looks like a proper new Rayman game might finally be on the way, though. Yesterday,a report suggested that a Rayman remake was in the works, which was then followed up with a statement from Ubisoftconfirming that Milan and Montpellier were in the early stages of an “exploration phase” of the Rayman brand. We don’t know what that means yet, but it looks like more Rayman is on the way.
Rayman 3 Remaster Reportedly In The Works
Funnily enough, that isn’t the only Rayman rumour to have come out this week.As reported by My Nintendo Newsandshared by RaymanForSmash, gaming insider PH Brazil recently suggested that Nintendo is asking third-party developers to release remasters for the original Nintendo Switch while its first-party developers focus their attention on the somehow still announced Switch 2.
So far, so ordinary. What makes things interesting is thatPH Brazil mentioned some of the games that are currently being planned for Switch remasters, such as Splinter Cell Blacklist and the Driver games. Also mentioned on that list is Rayman 3, which PH Brazil specifically says that they’re unsure if this is related to the rumours of a Rayman remake being in development.
While remasters and remakes are very different things, Rayman 3 being picked specifically is noteworthy considering it already has an HD port for PS3 and Xbox 360, which surely wouldn’t need much attention to get working on the Switch. While it could end up just being that version of the game, the fact that Nintendo is asking developers to put the effort in themselves suggests it could be something a little more.
Rayman 3 used to be my favourite of the original Rayman games, but it definitely needs a bit of work if it does get remastered.
We’ll have to wait and see what comes of the rumoured Rayman 3 remaster, but even if it does just end up being Rayman 3 HD ported to the Switch, it’ll be good news since that game is currently locked on the old generations and would likely come to other consoles than just the original Switch.
