Reliquary is one of the shortest Operations inWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, but it can also prove to be the game’s most challenging PvE mission if you aren’t prepared. You’ll need to fight hordes of Chaos forces, avoid deadly bailfire from a Heldrake, and best the Heldrake in a puzzle-focused boss fight. It’s a great mission to quickly farm XP, but you must have a solid understanding of this mission’s mechanics first.
The good news is that you can safely clear this mission solo on the hardest difficulty with some practice. Bring a strong weapon DPS class like the Sniper or Heavy, and you shouldn’t have many issues with the Heldrake fight and preceding Chaos encounters.
Recommended Classes
Sniper, Tactical, Bulwark
Reliquary is a mission againstChaos Space Marines, featuring Thousand Son units andTzaangors. There are tons of ranged enemies in this Operation, so you’ll want to bring a strong mid-range class like theSniperorTacticalMarine. Snipers are highly recommended since theirLas Fusilsniper can bring Rubric Marines to critical HP in two shots. For theHeldrakeboss, use theAuspex Scannerfrom the Tactical class to drastically increase your DPS.
To deal with the hordes of Tzaangor troops, you’ll want to bring theBulwark.A parry-focused buildcan clear an entire pack of them in a few seconds, and yourChapter Bannercan serve as a panic heal during the Helldrake run section. If someone on your team gets burned, throw down your banner to max out their Contested HP. If you’re comfortable using Melta Guns, a Heavy works just as well.
Proceed To The Warp Beacon
You’ll start the mission in a small graveyard that’s beside a series of catacombs.Multiple Rubric Marines will patrol the area. Focus on killing them first, using the Sniper’s primary weapon or a Tactical’s scanner ability to make short work of them. Some Traitor Guardsmen will also spawn near the Rubric Marines. You can simply run into them for easy kills.
Check any gaps in the walls while running through the graveyard. These side areas can house Gene Seeds,Armoury Data, and useful consumables.
Once you’re inside the catacombs, use the nearby drop pod to select a new loadout.Equip a long-range configuration, snipe the enemies across from you, then swap back to your preferred loadout. This makes the next part a little easier.
You’ll need to open the oversized double doors in the chamber to proceed, but you’ll need a power source to open them. A Servo-Skull can help you with finding a replacement.Enter the chamber on your left and protect the Servo-Skull.It’ll roam around the area for a few minutes, scanning any sarcophagus it can.Chaos will spawn after each scan, one of which might be an Extremis-class enemy like a Terminator or Sorcerer. If one spawns, kill them immediately.
Once you’ve scanned enough coffins, you should have a viable power source to get outside. Double back to the terminal and activate it. Head through the double doors, kill the pack of Chaos enemies waiting for you, and then use the elevators to start the next section. You can’t backtrackat this point, so make sure you’ve searched the area thoroughly before proceeding.
Avoid The Heldrake’s Bailfire
This next section is easily the hardest part of this mission. Your goal is toreach the cathedral without getting burned to a crisp by the Heldrake. It’ll make strafing runs on the path roughly every 15 seconds, covering the entire area in flame. If you get caught out in the open, this will surely kill you.Hide in the ruins of nearby buildingsto avoid the incoming fire. If you don’t have time, find a ruined pillar or debris in the path to hide behind.
Your Astartes will announce when the Heldrake is about to attack.
Halfway down the path, there will be a two-story structure you can hide in that’s filled with Chaos forces. An ammo resupply box typically spawns in this area, so you shouldn’t have any issues fending off these enemies. If needed, reposition right outside the structure for cover. Climb the second story, drop down to the path ahead, and immediately take cover behind the nearby debris. Run between each building ahead, and you should reach the cathedral without much issue.Stick together, and your team will do fine.
How To Defeat The Heldrake
Before you fight the Heldrake, you’ll use a terminal projecting a symbol that matches the nearby stained-glass panel on the wall. This serves as the main mechanic of the fight. The Heldrake has four sets of stained-glass panels behind it. You must activate terminals that match theglowingsymbols behind the boss. For example, if you see a glowing shield icon, you’ll look for a terminal projecting a shield. Activate the three correct symbols to start a short DPS phase.
If you enter the wrong symbol, the puzzle will reset. The Heldrake will then attack right after.
While activating three symbols shouldn’t be difficult, you’ll also have to kill Rubric Marines and avoid the Heldrake’s flame attacks in the process. We recommend splitting your team up to cover each third of the room. This lets each person get their own pillar to hide behind when the Heldrake starts to attack. You generally want to kill the adds first, look for the correct symbol, then activate the symbol you’re closest to. If the Heldrake starts to attack, immediately duck behind some cover.
You have unlimited attempts to kill the boss, and an ammo restore crate is present.Take your time.Make sure everyone is on the same page with the symbol mechanic, and you shouldn’t have many issues beating the Heldrake.
