Many video games allow you to do things that you may’t do in real life. Necromancy is certainly one of those things. However, even in games, it’s still fairly rare that you can practice that sort of dark magic. After all, creating undead hordes and messing around with spirits is seen as unethical in several gaming universes. It’s certainly not a practice fit for a noble hero.
Thankfully, someRPGsgive you a bit of freedom when it comes to morality. They don’t expect you to have the moral compass of Captain America all the time. So, Necromancy is something you’re able to play around with in certain role-playing games. The following titles are some examples.
Guild Wars 2 is one of the manygames that have a deep character creator. Not only do you pick their race and what they look like, but you also select their profession. Now, this is an MMORPG set in a fantasy world, so the likes of ‘software developer’ isn’t an option.
Yet, you can pick the more morally questionable profession of Necromancer. This allows you to summon demons, heal yourself with blood magic, and feed on an enemy’s life force. A typical software developer can’t do those things.
Grim Dawn is set in a dark world where humanity has been ripped apart by war. So, it’s the perfect sort of place for a Necromancer. That said, there was no Necromancer class at launch.

Yet, one of the Warframes is named Nekros, and it deals in the dark arts. It can summon shadow creatures, punch people’s souls, and mess with the dead.
In Path of Exile, you play as a character who has been exiled to a forsaken continent that is filled with ancient gods, deadly beasts, and plenty of other awful things. It’s a grim place that you will hope to fight your way out of.
In an effort to do that, perhaps you want to become a Necromancer. It’s an ascendancy class (sub-class) for Witches. Becoming a Necromancer grants you various skills that are mainly about making your minions better and getting boosts from corpses.
Diablo 4 is a dungeon-crawler RPG where you continually explore procedurally generated dungeons and fight a litany of deadly beasts. Before you get to all that, though, you first must create a character and select their class.
Necromancer is one of your options. As one of them, you have high intelligence and the ability to create a mighty undead horde to fight by your side. There are also a bunch ofunique items that only a Necromancer can use.
3The Unliving
A Necromancer is typically a class or subclass you’re able to choose to be. However, in the rogue-lite RPG called The Unliving, the whole game revolves around you being a Necromancer. You must attempt to fix the realm of the living, which has been corrupted to its core.
To do this, you wipe out a lot of enemies. You don’t do it alone, though, as you have an army of undead to help you out. It’s an army that keeps growing, too, as the people you kill can be added to the horde.
Your created character in Dragon Age: Inquisition is very important, as they could be the only one with the means to stop evil demons from taking over the mortal world. However, that doesn’t mean you have to be all about the mortals.
If you are a mage who selects the Necromancer specialization, you’re able to make use of spirits, too. There are various skills that involve you getting spirits to help or boost you. Also, several of the abilities are designed to strike fear into your enemies. One ofthe most underrated companions in the game, Dorian, also has Necromancy powers that you can utilize.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is an RPG set in the Dungeons and Dragons universe. Like in DnD, you have all sorts of options when creating your character, including your class. If you select Wizard, then you will have the option to pick Necromancy as your subclass.
Naturally, this gives you access to various special Necromancy powers, including the ability to raise the dead. There are also plenty of other Necromancy-based spells in the game, including the ability to speak with the dead and the power to curse people.
