PDP has been shrinking Sonic characters down to size, turning them into figurines, and trapping them inside transparent controllers for a little over a year. Conspicuous by his absence has been Shadow, especially since2024 has been the Year Of Shadow. Turns out PDP was just waiting for the right moment to reveal its Shadow controller, and the launch week ofSonic x Shadow Generationsis exactly that.
Controllers in PDP’s Realmz collection are made of clear plastic so that the tiny characters trapped in their handles are clearly visible.Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles controllers were revealedto kick off the Realmz range in 2023. While the collection coversNintendo SwitchandXbox, the new Shadow controller isa Switch-only option. It’s also wireless but a cheaper, wired option might join it in the future.
The Shadow figure is locked in place in the controller’s right handle, and while that unique feature is the best part of Realmz offerings, the rest of the design is Shadow-themed too. An image of the Space Colony Ark, the space station on which Shadow is created and eventually escapes from, covers the majority of the controller. Rather fitting that Shadow is trapped as part of the design if you think about it as it’s reminiscent of the stasis he is suspended in while on the space station.

All That Effort To Escape And He’s Been Recaptured And Stuffed Into A Switch Controller
On the left handle are the word Chaos Control in red, and the rest of the controller’s color scheme, including its face and shoulder buttons, are red and black to mirror Shadow’s color scheme. Pre-orders for the Shadow Realmz controller arenow open on Amazon and through PDP’s official site for $64.99, but there’s a downside - they won’t be released until December 7. That means we’ll have to play Sonic x Shadow Generations without them. On the bright side, the controllers will ship in time forthe Keanu Reeves-voiced Sonic the Hedgehog 3-themed contentthat will be added to the game when the third movie hits theaters.
Shadow Space Colony ARK PDP Realmz Controller
Shadow has joined other Sonic characters in PDP’s Realmz collection. Like other controllers in the range, the Nintendo Switch Shadow option includes a tiny Shadow action figure trapped on the handle. The rest of the controller’s design is themed after the hedgehog with an image of the space station on which he was created and its color scheme matching the hedgehog’s.
Sonic and co. aren’t the only characters who have been trapped inside controllers by PDP for its Realmz collection.Pikmin have been given the same treatment,as has Optimus Primeproving that no matter how big or how small, there’s a chance PDP will eventually capture you and put you in a controller. Hopefully this isn’t the end of the Sonic Realmz additions. I, for one, will not rest until I’m fishing inSonic Frontiersusing a Big The Cat controller.
