Summary
If you thoughtFortnitecould not get any more zany after adding the likes of Goku,Mr. Incredible, Billie Eilish andPeter Griffin, then think again. That’s because the gaming version of the metaverse will reportedly be adding none other than Shaquille O’Neal into the fold in early October.
According to reliable Fortnite insider Shiina, Fortnite x Shaq is due to launch on October 4. There’s no word on exactly what that collaboration looks like, but it’ll likely involve a playable version of the basketball star turned advertising mogul, along with other little bits and bobs.
And so, when Shaq does drop in Fortnite, he’ll be just one of several real-life personalities, plus characters from various IPs to be part ofEpic Games’live-service shooter. A few years ago, that would have been a wild thought, but it’s just par for the course when it comes to Fortnite. It’s also completely on brand for Shaq to end up in the game.
Shaq Is Everywhere
While Shaq is undeniably one of the greatest basketball players of all time, in recent years, he’s become known more for his advertising prowess than his on-court ability.
There are, of course, the numerous Papa John’s pizza commercials involving Shaq and his “Shaq-a-Roni Pizza.”
Then, there are the commercials involving The General Car Insurance and Shaq.
And how could we ever forget Shaq’s signature Icy Hot ads?
Memes aside, Shaq is everywhere, so Fortnite is genuinely the most logical step for him. That said, longtime gamers might remember that Shaq had his own video game at one point called Shaq Fu. If you don’t remember, then we don’t blame you, because it’s considered one of the worst games of its time. That still didn’t stop it from getting a sequel decades later called “Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn.” Like we said, he’s everywhere, and Fortnite, you’re next.
