Chapter 3 takes us to the third time period inThe Casting of Frank Stone, 1980. It wouldn’t be a horror game without the ’80s, eh? We start with Jaime, a younger Linda, and Chris filming a scene for the Murder Mill movie that we just saw the poster of, and you can actually control how this scene plays out.
This chapter has you fixing a camera, an innocuous little task that will surely have no long-term consequences. As ever, you’ll have some tricky choices to make and branching paths to explore, so let us help you down them.
Getting Money To Fix The Camera
Firstly, there’s a quick time event. If you fail, Jaime messes up his lines and disappoints his girlfriend Chris. Secondly, you have a choice between acting Defiant and Hopeless (or Desperate if you failed the QTE). Hopeless and Desperate will once again lead to Jaime blundering his lines and annoying Chris.
After this scene, Sam Green—now the sheriff—will burst in and cause Linda to drop the camera, breaking it. He tells you to scram, and you’re able to eithercomply or argue back; this will shape Jaime and Sam’s relationship going forward. Regardless of what you do, you’ll be kicked out and driven back to Jaime’s garage to start the chapter properly.
Deflated and back home, the crew discuss how they can fix the camera and continue filming. Unfortunately, Chris has spent the rest of the budget on Murder Mill tees, soyou need to scrounge up some cash. There are a few ways you can go about this.
Asking Bonnie For Money
Jaime’s sister Bonnie walks in mid-argument with their dad and starts venting. If you want to ask her for money, you need to be Empathetic.
You can either beCasual and ask for $10, orNervous and ask for $20—she’ll give you whatever you ask for.
Getting $20 opens up a unique path that continues into Chapter 5.
Stealing Money From Bonnie
If youannoy Bonniewhen she enters the room(Jovial/Shocked/Serious), she’ll storm out, forgetting her bag.
You can either yell at her to come grab it, orsteal $20while she isn’t looking.Linda will be unhappywith this choice, butyou do earn the Five Finger Discount trophy.
If you call for Bonnie, she’ll take her bag and storm off.Linda will be pleased you chose not to steal, but you still need money to fix your camera, soChris and Linda urge Jaime to ask his dad. Thisonly gets you $10, however, closing off that unique path I mentioned.
Should You Visit The Drugstore Or Curiosity Shop?
After getting the money, you’ll head to town to find someone who can fix your camera, and you’ll geta choice between two stores—the Drugstore or the Curiosity Shop.
No matter which you pick, you’ll always visit both. But if you go to the Drugstore first, you can open up that unique $20 path.
The Drugstore
Upon entering the drugstore, Jaime will say he’s nervous about haggling with the clerk.Chris can either be Encouraging or Provocative, but no matter what, he will agree to go over and talk to the cashier. However,Encouraging increases his relationship level with Chris.
Now, Chris is free to explore the Drugstore. On your left, you’ll find a magazine about cursed movies, AKA theLost Movie Magazine Artifact.
On the other side of the store, look closely atthe far right aisleto find a box withthe Waterlogged Shoe Trinketinside.
You can play Space Invaders in the arcade machine at the back.
There are some other flavour items here, like a notice board which reveals that the Mill is going to be demolished, but otherwise you’re done exploring and can nowspeak to Linda to continue.
If you were Encouraging, Linda asks Chris what’s up with the “lovey dovey sh—t” between her and Jaime. But if you chose Provocative, she’ll ask if Chris thinks the movie is actually any good. Afterwards, you’ll meet Sam’s son Robert and Jaime will return to say they can’t fix the camera.
If you took $20 from Bonnie, Jaime will buy some firecrackers—these make a huge difference in Chapter 5.
Luckily, the Curiosity Shop is still open, so the crew crosses the street to check if they have a camera on sale.
The Curiosity Shop
On the left side of the shop, you’ll findthe Lawyer Letter Artifact, and at the back right, you may inspect theTrapper Dead by Daylight Doll.
There are a bunch of cool flavour items here not tied to any collectibles, like the Huntress mask and another creepy TV, so verify to look around beforeinteracting with the film reel on the shelfto get jumpscared by the shopkeeper.
The shopkeeper, a mysterious old woman, then heads into the back to get a camera, which Chris can haggle over.
It always costs however much money you have on you,and youcan’t get it any cheaper, but if you choose to haggle, you’ll be offered a “one-of-a-kind handmade token of luck”. Regardless of whether you take it, you’ll leave with the new camera.
If you chose to go to the Curiosity Shop first, Chris will now visit the Drugstore to get some milk, but otherwise you’re all done! Time to revisit Madi, Linda, and Stan in 2024.
