Summary
Silent Hill 2 Remakeis officially out, andhorror fans, both old and new, are making their way through James Sunderland’s intense adventure. One such person going throughBloober Team’sremake is Silent Hill 2’s original art director, Masahiro Ito.
In the leadup to Silent Hill 2 Remake’s release,Ito could often be found on Twitter discussing his career, the game and some of its background. And now that the game is fully out,Ito took to the social media platform to discuss one of the game’s most iconic and moving encounters: the Abstract Daddy.
As it turns out, Ito is just as horrified about the boss fight as we all are. And that’s coming from the person who originally designed it. “Even though I designed Abstract Daddy itself, the creature & the reliving the Angela’s story in the SH2R A-Daddy battle made me feel bad,“Ito wrote on Twitter. “It was so bad.”
Abstract Daddy Is Intense And Emotional
While Silent Hill 2 and its remake are extremely intense horror games, what makes the Abstract Daddy encounter stand out is just how tragic its background is.
Spoilers for Silent Hill 2 to followAbstract Daddy is the manifestation of the sexual abuse and trauma that Angela experienced on the part of her father. It is grotesque, off-putting and insanely horrific. To be precise, its design is based around two figures on a bed frame in a sexual position. It is obviously not for the feint of heart, and its larger purpose helps make Silent Hill as a construct what it is.
Given how so many people over the years have reacted to Silent Hill, as well as Abstract Daddy, it’s intriguing to hear what someone responsible for the very encounter thinks. Especially considering that Ito is witnessing his own art come to life in a new way.
