Summary
Silent Hill 2 Remakehas now been officially released and is on store shelves for everyone to pick up and play. Despite having only been available for a few days, various secrets and little nods to the old games have already been found, including the canon location of Silent Hill, the canon location of James' wife Mary, and thenot-so-canon location of the game’s infamous Comic Sans ranch sign. It should also be no surprise that modders have also got their hands all over Silent Hill 2 recently, and the wave of character swap mods has already started.
When you think of mods that almost every single game has, there’s only one that comes to mind. It’s almost a rite of passage for every high-profile game out there to somehow get a mod that makes CJ from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas the main character, regardless of context, and you’ll be pleased to find out that there’s already a mod out there for Silent Hill 2 Remake, courtesy of creator SpiritHun.
Modders even managed to make some truly cursed CJ mods for Armored Core 6 and Stray too, turning him into a gigantic mechanda horribly mutated catrespectively. Getting him in Silent Hill 2 Remake was probably a walk in the park in comparison.
However, if you’re expecting a character model for CJ as richly detailed as James Sunderland, you might be a little disappointed. This appears to be exactly the same model that’s used in San Andreas, so poor CJ’s face is a bit blurry and he has a very strange sheen to his entire body, but it wouldn’t be a CJ mod if it didn’t look a little creepy, would it?
Silent Hill 2 Remake Already Has CJ And Leon Kennedy Mods
Of course, where there is one character swap mod, plenty more are set to follow. Clearly not happy to just swap James Sunderland with CJ, mod creator SpiritHun went for a much more thematic pick of main character for their next mod, taking Leon Kennedy from the world of Resident Evil 4to the world of Silent Hill. Poor dude can’t catch a break.
If you’re wanting something a little bit more authentic, and possibly a little nostalgic, you could also swap James Sunderland with a different James Sunderland.A creator called NorskPLhas managed to make a mod that will let you play as James Sunderland from the original Silent Hill 2 that was released in 2001, for those of you who think the remade version of James is a bit too pretty.
That’s all the notable character swap mods that Silent Hill 2 Remake has received so far, though I’m sure a flurry of them are soon to follow. You’ve not really made it in triple-A development these days untilThomas the Tank Engineand Randy Savage have graced your game, and I will be eagerly awaiting the day on which I can whack Thomas the Tank Engine with a big plank of wood.
