Summary
Silent Hill 2 Remakehas only been out for five minutes in the grand scheme of things, and yet there are already a bunch of mods available, fromCarl Johnson and Leon Kennedy(the sign of any healthy modding community) to an awful HD Collection overhaul. But one that radically changes how the game feels isthe First Person Mod.
Developed by Jessica Natalia, this mod does exactly what you’d expect. It allows you to play through the remake in an entirely first person perspective, much as inResident Evil 7andAlien: Isolation.
It’s Still In Development, So Expect Some Bugs If You Try It Out
As with almost every mod launching this week, given that the game just came out, there are some teething issues.
“An early version of my first person mod,” the description reads. “Might still have some issues. Before I had a problem with the player briefly appearing on the screen, mainly during combat […] So I made the entire model invisible. The downside of this is that there would be no James during cutscenes […] I still need to test more.”
Players report problems with combat and joystick controls, but the mod has paved the way forVR gameplayalready.
If you’re not fussed about cutscenes bugging out, this mod is certainly an interesting way to reframe James Sunderland’s story, making the entire game feel that much more intimate. Granted, it’s probably best saved for a second playthrough given the issues that people are running into, but if nothing else, it’s handy for taking screenshots.
