Summary
Silent Hillfans have been one of the most tortured groups of people in the gaming sphere for quite some time, outside of maybe Hollow Knight: Silksong fans. Having dropped an all-timer in 2014 with PT, the series took on its name and went silent, with almost nothing for eight years while Konami poured money into pachinko machines.
When the company finally decided to make games again, it thought that Silent Hill Ascension was an acceptable product to release,a game that nobody wanted and nobody liked. Konami then released Silent Hill: A Short Message, which was also pretty terrible, but for completely different reasons. With that in mind, you can understand why there was so much skepticismsurrounding Bloober Team’s upcoming remake of Silent Hill 2.
Bloober is a developer that has a reputation for making iffy horror games, and there was a general feeling of unease as soon as fans found out its name was attached. Now that the game is getting closer to release, and reviews were about to drop, fans were braced for the worst while simultaneously crossing their fingers and hoping for the best. Thankfully, it looks as thoughSilent Hill 2 Remakeis quite good.
Silent Hill 2 Remake Is… Actually Good?
At the time of writing,Silent Hill 2 Remake is sitting at a score of 88 on OpenCriticafter a total of 35 reviews, and while we weren’t as impressed as some, we still found it to be pretty enjoyable too. It’s a lot more impressive than I’m sure most of us were expecting, and not even Silent Hill fans can believe what’s happening at the moment. Shortly after the reviews dropped, and the scores came in, the Silent Hill subreddit exploded in celebration.
Take a quick look down the subreddit, and you’ll see all kinds of celebratory posts, including gifs of James Sunderland dancingandvarious memes repurposed for Silent Hill fans, almost as if they were prepped just in case Bloober pulled off a miracle. Most of the celebrations are due to fansfinally being able to play a good Silent Hill gameafter a decade, and there are even some posts describing total shock that Bloober Team did well.
You’ll also be able to find several fans of the series congratulating Bloober Team on its success, including this one on ResetEra, that was created by someone who thought the game would be “a catastrophe of epic proportions” and is glad they were “completely wrong”. That does sound a bit daft, as any developer that had a hand in The Medium is deserving of skepticism, but it’s a nice sentiment regardless. Here’s hoping this isthe start of a beautiful relationship between Bloober and Konami.
