Summary
Silent Hill 2’s early digital deluxe launch appears to be a hit onSteamas it’s already sitting at “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews, a far cry from what most fans expected.
From the very first moment thatit was revealed that Bloober Team would be the ones behind the long-rumoured remake of Silent Hill 2, it’s fair to say thatpretty much everyone had their doubts. Bloober has released several good games, sure, but itsapproach to horror has been a lot more obvious and jumpscare-heavy than the subtlety of Silent Hill requires.
Against all odds, though,it seems that Bloober has actually managed to remake Silent Hill 2 in the way that it deserves, with it achieving much higher review scores from critics than any of us expected. It also seems to be a success with players too, as the ones getting their hands on it early have nothing but good things to say.
Silent Hill 2 Starts Out At “Overwhelmingly Positive” On Steam
Although Silent Hill 2 doesn’t launch until October 8 for most players, those who purchased the Digital Deluxe version of the game have been granted access to it a few days early. That means that reviews from players have started rolling in and, just like most critics, they seem to be very positive so far.
As pointed out by Twitter user HazzadorGamin, the Steam page for Silent Hill 2 haslaunched with “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews from players. As of the time of writing, there are 2,097 written reviews, with only 103 of them being negative. Considering how Silent Hill 2’s remake has been viewed ever since it was announced, that’s a very surprising outcome.
Interestingly,Bloober Team is well-aware of the scepticism that fans have had about its Silent Hill 2 remakeand just wanted to be given a chance.
The positive reviews all seem to agree with that sentiment, as many of them note that they’re surprised at how well Bloober has managed to capture the original game’s spirit. One review says that Bloober “NAILED” it, while another says that “this is a remake done right”. It seems that we might have all been wrong to judge Bloober so soon.
As for the sparing negative reviews, they all seem to be focused on technical issues with the PC version of the game, with several pointing out performance issues and problems running it on their system. That isn’t going to be universal for everyone, though, so it seems like the overall consensus is even more positive than the reviews make out.
