Summary

Sonic X Shadow Generationsmight have finally let us know where Shadow was during the events of Sonic’s campaign, but it still leaves Silver’s whereabouts as a mystery.

Beyond finally letting Shadow have his own game after more than a decade of being benched (fair enough after Shadow the Hedgehog),the edgy ultimate lifeform finally has the spotlight in Sonic X Shadow Generations. Interestingly, Shadow’s campaign actually takes place during the events of Sonic Generations, with the game opening as Shadow misses the birthday party to keep an eye on the ARK.

This actually gives Shadow a very good reason for missing Sonic’s surprise birthday party in Sonic Generations, instead of just suggesting that he couldn’t be bothered to show up in the first place. That’s a nice touch, but it sadly doesn’t explain where the heck Silver was at the start of the game.

Silver Is Still Missing From Sonic’s Birthday Party In Sonic Generations

During the opening cutscene of Sonic Generations, one of the things that fans have found strange over the years is the fact that Silver is nowhere to be seen among Sonic’s friends. Sure, he’s from the future and that’s a very valid reason, but he was clearly able to get to the party since he shows up later in the game.

If Blaze can make it to Sonic’s birthday then surely Silver can, right?

While Shadow Generations does at least give Shadow an excuse as to why he wasn’t around (although he likely wouldn’t have shown up anyway), it doesn’t go as far as explaining why Silver isn’t there. Silver doesn’t get any screen time during Shadow’s campaign, not even during the moments that line up with Sonic’s original adventure and further explain why Shadow wasn’t around then.

Of course, this isn’t much of a surprise considering the campaign completely focuses on Shadow and tells his story instead of Silver’s, but it is a funny detail considering how long fans have wondered where Silver is. He does eventually join the party at the end of the game when everything is said and done, but that makes it even stranger that he wasn’t around originally.

Unless Sega eventually tellsSilver’s side of the story as a separate game included with whatever remaster comes next, it seems likely that we’ll never know what the heck the futuristic hedgehog was up to during the events of Sonic Generations. Let’s just hope he was actually invited to the party and was just running late.
