Sonic X Shadow Generations Finally Gives Shadow Some Closure

Summary

The most anticipated aspect ofSonic X Shadow Generationsis its new story, Shadow Generations. This entirely new campaign centres around the anti-hero, and runs parallel to the events of Sonic Generations.

Since Shadow Generations is a celebration of his past, rather than the Blue Blur’s, it makes sense that it dives into his backstory again for the first time in years. This means we get to see some familiar faces in the story, including some that finally give Shadow some much-needed closure.

Shadow Generations Brings Back Some Old Faces

Alright, spoilers time - Maria is back.Fans had called this well ahead of launch, suspecting that Shadow and Maria would finally reunite as part of Shadow Generations. But now, it’s official: he gets to see his old friend again.

Gerald Robotnik - Shadow’s creator and Maria’s grandfather - is here too. Both he and Maria meet Shadow in the hub area, having been pulled there from the past. Of course, this also explains why Shadow is having to go through levels from previous games - his story is all about confronting his origins.

He runs into some other old friends too, like E-123 Omega, Rogue, and… Big the Cat. I mean, the latter is hardly a bestie of his, but it’s always nice to see Big in another game.No fishing minigame to be had this time though, alas.

While this is our first time seeing Maria in a while, we’re actually going to see her depicted once more before the year is over. She’s set to appear in the third Sonic movie, whichseems to be accurately sticking to Shadow’s backstory in the games. In other words, there’s a very real chance that a kids' movie that’s premiering this holiday season is going to show the death of a child on screen -and fans can’t wait.
