Summary

Sonic X Shadow Generationsis out now and fans are diving into a new adventure featuring Shadow, as well as revisiting a classic in Sonic Generations. However, with it being a semi-remake,quite a few things have changed from the original, including certain dialogue and actions that the characters perform. For example, Knuckles no longer fat shames Classic Sonic, and Dr Robotnik doesn’t mention whether he’s going to end up as crazy as Eggman.

Some of these changes have rankled certain fans, who preferred the dialogue in the original game, and there’s a lot of anger currently surrounding the character of Amy Rose. For a while now, there have been grievances from some Sonic fans that Sonic Team has been slowly eroding Amy’s love for Sonic, arguably the trait that she’s most known for, and that Sonic X Shadow Generations is guilty of it too.

Sonic X Shadow Generations Has Amy Fans Fighting Over Dialogue And Bio Changes

One of the biggest points of contention surrounding Amy in the game is her updated character bio, which mentions how she often refers to herself as Sonic’s “girlfriend”. Sonic X Shadow Generations has removed this section completely, instead claiming that Sonic “inspires her to be her very best” instead, and some fans are saying this is Sega “mandating she must not be #expressive about her love.”

You also have fans pointing to other games with Amy in them over how her personality should be. For example,a Twitter user called MationMisspoints to Amy’s characterization in The Murder of Sonic The Hedgehog - the visual novel released on April Fools last year - as an example of how Amy can be her own character while keeping her love for Sonic.

Then you have the other side of the argument, who are claiming that Amy’s personality change has been good for her character, such asReddit user ChocolateRough5103, who is happy that Sega has “tempered down her obsessive behavior.” There are even some fanspointing to dialogue in Sonic X Shadow Generationsthat lets Amy have her little moments with Sonic without it becoming overbearing.

It’s an argument that’s been raging for a few days, and doesn’t look like it’s going to simmer down any time soon. Any game with Amy in it is going to bring up arguments again, but hey,at least they’re not mad that Rogue has been covered up a little more. That’s a win in my eyes.
