In case you’ve been living under a rock,2024 has officially been dubbed “The Year of Shadow.“All throughout the year, everyone’s favorite moody hedgehog has beenthe subject of a celebration involving toys, an anime and even a real-life motorcycle.
As the year comes to a close,the antihero will make his live-action debut in December’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3, being voiced bynone other than Keanu Reeves. Along with that,Sonic x Shadow Generationswill be released,which will include Shadow-specific levels. That said, it appears that the celebration of Shadow has also included some lore dumps.
We Already Kind Of Knew, But More Confirmation Is GoodOn Monday, in honor of the Shadow anime being completed,Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter accountshareda piece of artwork featuring both Shadow and Maria Robotnik.
On the surface, it’s a cool piece of artwork, but where the real interest lies is in the image’s alternative description. There, it seemingly confirms that the two are siblings, with the following text:
Shadow and Maria reach out for one another in an infinite abyss (as long-lost siblings would) with the Moon and the Space Colony ARK in the background.
Of course, the two were always depicted as having a very close relationship, though this does help clarify things. As fans might recall, Shadow was created with the goal of curing illnesses like the one that afflicted Maria. It’s entirely plausible that he has some of her DNA in him, making them actually biologically related.
Either way, it’s a solid bit of intel on Shadow. With the tie-in anime complete, and the official game releasing in nearly 10 days, perhaps more light will be shed.
