Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatredbrings you to Nahantu, the jungles in the southern reaches of Sanctuary, and the native land of the Spiritborn. This class, added with Vessel of Hatred, is a fast, mobile, close-range fighter that channels the power of the spirit realm.

Spiritborn use the power of the four spirits, Jaguar, Eagle, Gorilla, and Centipede, each with its own unique traits that can be used all together or mixed and matched to create powerful builds. Below, we’ll take a look at everything you need to know about the Spiritborn, including an overview of each of the Spirits they can channel.

Spiritborn Overview

The Spiritborn is defined by its access to the four Spirit animals:Jaguar, Eagle, Gorilla, and Centipede. Each of its skills are represented by one of these Spirits, and each skill within a class of Spirit generally synergizes well together. This makes planning your own build rather straightforward, as you can typically select the Spirit you want to use, then use only skills of that Spirit.

Of course, some Spirit skills are strong no matter which type of build you’re using, so most often it’s better to use skills from two or three Spirits at a time, with the bulk of your build centering around one Spirit.

The Spirit Hall

When you reach level 15 and complete the Spiritborn’s class quest, you’ll gain access to theSpirit Hall. Here, you may select oneprimary Spirit passivethat essentially defines your playstyle. At level 30, you can select asecondary passive.

The major passive also makes all skills of the selected Spirit type that Spirit, meaning that if you select the Eagle main passive, every skill will become an Eagle skill. This helps produce extra synergy when a skill or Legendary Aspect requires the use of a specific Spirit type.

Jaguar Spirit Overview

The Spiritborn’s Jaguar abilities are centered aroundfast, multi-hit attacksthat individually deal low damage, but when chained together become incredibly potent. The core of the Jaguar’s arsenal isFerocity, whichincreases your attack speedby five per stack, stacking up to four times.

Ferocity is gained primarily through Rake, the Core Jaguar skill, but also through the third hit of the Basic Attack, Thrash. However, when combined with the Unique QuarterstaffSepazontec, which makes only the third hit of Thrash trigger, you will be able to easily maintain Ferocity.

Stacking Ferocity will also grant other bonuses like increasing your Life on Kill, overall damage, or reducing the cooldowns of certain skills.

Eagle Spirit Overview

The Eagle Spirit is the most mobile of the Spirits. Its major passive changes your dodge, giving it the ability toshoot Storm Feathers when dodgingthat applyVulnerableand deal high damage. Vulnerable is another key aspect of Eagle builds, as most Eagle skills rely on it or apply it.

With a full Eagle build, you’ll be able to cartwheel around at breakneck speeds, dodging attacks while flinging out feathers, applying Vulnerable to every enemy in sight. This is one of thestrongest and fastest Spiritborn build options, and is great for leveling as it doesn’t require many Legendary Aspects or Unique items to shine.

Gorilla Spirit Overview

The Gorilla Spirit is all aboutThorns, damage reduction, and the unique buffResolve. Resolve is a stacking buff that provides a20 percent damage reduction on the next attack you take, which also removes a stack. There are a number of different ways to gain Resolve, and most Gorilla skills revolve around having or spending it in some way.

Thornsis also a big part of what makes the Gorilla Spirit unique. The Gorilla Basic Skill,Rock Splitter, deals your Thorns damage in an area on its third hit. When combined withSepazontec, you will always be hitting with the third hit in the combo, repeatedly blasting the area around yourself with your Thorns damage.

Gorilla builds have some of the best survivability, and theArmoured HideDefensive skill is a great option no matter which Spirit type you’re using.

Centipede Spirit Overview

The Centipede is one of the most straightforward Spirits, but is one of the most satisfying to use. Selecting every Centipede skill and passive is perfectly viable for this build, making it very easy to set up and see fast results. As you can imagine, the Centipede is all aboutpoison damageanddebilitating enemies.

Most Centipede skills apply poison in some way, along with several other debuffs likeslowingorreducing damagedealt. The Centipede Spirit also provides a few ways toheal yourself by siphoning life from poisoned enemies.

On its own, poison damage is fairly powerful, but it really shines when used with theNoxious ResonanceKey Passive, whichcauses poison damage to explodewhen you hit the inflicted enemy with a Critical Strike. With how much poison you’re able to quickly apply, this lets you burst down high-health enemies by stacking Critical Strike Chance.
