Summary

As part of a random Halloween trailer,THQ Nordichas confirmed that it’s releasing a brand-newSpongeBob SquarePantsgame at some point in 2025.

When I think of Halloween, I don’t usually think of everyone’s favourite happy cartoon sponge, but I guess that must just be me. Earlier today, THQ Nordic released a “Halloween Gaming” trailer focused on SpongeBob SquarePants andshowing some of his more spooky outings from The Cosmic Shake and Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated.

Timely seasonal trailers are nothing new in the world of video games, but this one had a very surprising treat in store for fans. Towards the end of the trailer, THQ Nordic randomly confirmed out of nowhere that they’re developing an"all-new" SpongeBob SquarePants game that seemingly has something to do with ghosts.

SpongeBob Is Getting A New Game From THQ Nordic Next Year

As the trailer ends, SpongeBob and Patrick can be seen in front of a green glowing background while the Flying Dutchman laughs at them. While the two stand around celebrating, they each turn into ghosts, suggesting that the new game will focus on the Flying Dutchman in some capacity. It could also just be for the Halloween theme, but it seems more like a tease for the game overall.

The small snippet also confirms that what’s being shown is an “all-new adventure” that’s coming at some point in 2025. We don’t know anything else about the game right now,but considering Purple Lamp Studios made both Bikini Bottom Rehydrated and The Cosmic Shake, it seems likely that it has something to do with it. We can only hope, anyway.

If so, Purple Lamp has been keeping really busy latelyas it just finished up work on Epic Mickey Rebrushed, which launched last month.

Details on the new game are very scarce right now since it’s just a teaser, but it’s worth noting that the trailer teasing some kind of Flying Dutchman theme could meanthat it’s going to coincide with The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, which is releasing in theatres on June 25, 2025.

That film is all about SpongeBob and his relationship with the Flying Dutchman, so this tease could be a big hint towards a tie-in video game, or at least something along those lines. Whatever it does end up being, here’s hoping that Purple Lamp is back in action for it, as they’ve raised the teddy bear-bar when it comes to SpongeBob titles.
