Summary

FormerBethesdadeveloper Bruce Nesmith has stated that the inevitableStarfield2 will be “one hell of a game” since it’ll be working from an existing foundation instead of being something completely new.

Although Starfield wasfarfrom a bad game,it’s fair to say that almost everyone thought that it was a disappointment, especially since it was the start ofBethesda’s first new series in a long time. The empty planets, lack of vehicles, repetitive missions, and a lot moreresulted in Starfieldmaking much less of an impact than we all expected from such a big release.

While Bethesda must be a little let down that Starfield isn’t the next 10-year game like Skyrim, it’s pretty clear that it still has big plans for the series moving forward, with one former Bethesda veteran even claiming that it was now part of the studio’s “big three”. We have no idea if we’ll ever get a Starfield sequel, but it seems that a lot of people expect it to be a big step up.

Starfield 2 Will Be “One Hell Of A Game” According To Former Bethesda Developer

One such person with big expectations for Starfield 2 is Bruce Nesmith a former senior game designer at Bethesda who left the studio in 2021 to write books such as Mischief Maker. While talking to VideoGamer, Nesmith shared that he had a lot of confidence in Bethesda when it comes to Starfield 2, comparing the first game’s launch to that of Mass Effect and Assassin’s Creed.

Nesmith explained that when Bethesda was working on Skyrim, it had the “tremendous advantage” of Oblivion, which was helped along by Morrowind and the foundations it set for the series as a whole. He suggests the team just had to build on that and add new things instead of starting from the ground up like Bethesda did with Starfield.

With this in mind, Nesmith thinks that Starfield 2, which hasn’t been confirmed yet but is somewhat inevitable, is going to be “one hell of a game” since it can address some of the complaints fans had with the original. This is true of a lot of sequels, which Nesmith pointed out by comparing it to Assassin’s Creed, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect.

I’m looking forward to Starfield 2. I think it’s going to be one hell of a game because it’s going to address a lot of the things people are saying, ‘We’re quite there. We’re missing a little bit.’ It will be able to take what’s in there right now and put in a lot of new stuff and fix a lot of those problems. - Bruce Nesmith

Although it’s true that Bethesda will likely have a much better idea of what to do when it comes to Starfield 2 since it has the foundations now, it’s worth noting that we’re going to be waiting a long time until we see for ourselves. The Elder Scrolls 6 is still the next game that Bethesda is working on, followed by a new Fallout,so a sequel to Starfield is going to take a very long time to come to fruition.
