I’m not sure why Mario Party is the exception to the rule. Maybe because they don’t take as much time and effort to make a new one as other series since they’re mostly collections of Mario Party’s greatest hits. Despite that, both Mario Party titles on Switch are in the console’s top 20 best-selling titles. Jamboree looks a lot like another Mario Party greatest hits compilation, but with a lot of new stuff to the series thrown in.
The aforementioned greatest hits are all there - the recycled boards, returns of all the best games, and characters some of you have been Mario Partying with for the better part of 30 years. However, Jamboree’s roster is massive with just about everyone who has ever previously appeared in a Mario Party game coming back, andNiji and Pauline making their Party debuts. There’s also a board you’ll drive around in Mario Karts rather than hop around on by foot, and perhaps the biggest difference of all,the introduction of online modes for up to 20 players.

Nintendo is celebrated for a lot of things, but the Switch’s online functionality is not one of them. Jamboree’s online modes look chaotic, so hopefully this will be the first sign that Nintendo’s online prowess is on the up. Copies of Jamboree, whether you pre-order or buy it after the game has been released,include three months of Nintendo Switch Online. Clearly Nintendo wants as many of you trying out its online modes as possible, so I guess we’ll be seeing each other on the Koopathlon course very soon.

There will be some minigames in Jamboree that need the Joy-Con’s motion controls. Those minigames cannot be played using a pro controller or on Switch Lite and will not be available for selection when playing online.
