Summary

The developers behindTekken 8have issued an apology for the negatively received Year 1 DLC Pass and are offering a few bonuses to make it up to fans.

Following Tekken 8 since its launch has been an absolute rollercoaster of emotions. When it first released at the start of the year, it seemed that no one had a bad thing to say about it and there was nothing but love for the long-awaited eighth mainline entry. That quickly changed, though, asfans became annoyed about the introduction of a battle pass a few months into the game’s lifespan.

Things eventually started improving and getting more positively received but, just as Heihachi Mishima joined the game and it looked like Tekken 8 would be at its peak, the Steam reviews dropped right back down to negativedue to the Genmaji Temple stage not being included in the DLC passand having to be purchased for an extra $4.99.

Tekken 8 Apologises Over Year 1 DLC

Although the Tekken team didn’t respond to the first round of controversy, it seems that this latest wave of negative responses is too much to ignore,as a statement was just shared over on Twitter. The statement begins by apologising to fans for “not meeting the community’s expectations” for the Year 1 pass, with specific mention being made for the “Genmaji Temple DLC release method”.

In response to the feedback, anyone who owns the Year 1 Pass will have access to the Winter Stage DLC for free without needing to purchase it separately like they had to with the Genmaji Temple stage. It seems that stages beyond that will still need to be purchased, though, so it seems this wave of negative feedback might come back around in the future.

The second thing that’s being offered by the Tekken team is 500 Tekken Coins, which can be redeemed by players who log in between October 29 and November 26. These Tekken coins can be used to purchase items in the shop, so it’s a nice bonus considering how negatively fans have felt about the microtransactions recently.

Thankfully, it seems like this response is being taken as a positive step by Tekken fans, who are praising the move and expressing appreciation for the team listening to the fans. Let’s hope that it sticks this time around and we don’t have to report on the Steam reviews dropping to Negative again in the future.
