Summary

Two things are certain when it comes to video games. Fanswill show up for a high-quality release, andfans will go to the ends of the earth to make their voices heard when they’re displeased. Fortunately and unfortunately,Tekken 8is going through both of those things.

That’s because after launching in January to critical acclaim and fanfare, those same fans have taken toSteamto voice their displeasure with the game’s DLC practices. Those voiceshave dropped the game to “Mixed” on Steam, with negative reviews filtering in one after the other.

The Stage DLC Has Fans Upset

For what it’s worth, these negative reviews didn’t just come out of nowhere. Followingthe release of the Heihachi DLC, Genmaji Temple, a stage that is connected to the DLC,was and still is being sold for an additional $4.99. It’s notpart of the game’s Year 1 Pass, which has run gamers $39.99.

That alone has fans fuming, believing that they’re being nickeled and dimed by Bandai Namco. Executive producer Katsuhiro Harada even took to Twitter to personally apologize for the debacle, going as far as to say that he would review the organizational structure so that it “values the community as it did in the past.”

However, it seemingly isn’t enough.Taking to the Steam storefront, one review after the other echoes largely the same sentiments. “It makes me sad to have to leave a negative review on such a fun game, but Bandai Namco just keeps on trying to squeeze more and more money out of the playerbase, and it’s infuriating,“one review read in part.

“You are greedy, and I am not paying an extra 5 euros for a stage that should have been free with the Heihachi DLC,“read another review. “You guys are greedy and have no respect for your players.”

It’s unclear at this point if Bandai Namco will reverse course and offer the stage DLC for free. Granted, it would have to deal with further backlash from the people that did buy it, though it certainly would help calm things down. Either way, what was supposed to be a momentous occassion with Heihachi’s return has turned sour very quickly.
