Summary
Tekken 8’s Steam reviews have come crashing back down to mostly negative, afterthe latest wave of review bombing. This is in response to a new DLC stage being added alongside Heihachi, charging players an extra $4.99 even if they’d already purchased the DLC pass.
As a result, the recent reviews of the game are now listed as mostly negative, with the overall reviews being mixed. This is despite many players loving the gameplay itself, and only taking issue with the monetisation practices that have crept in since launch.
Tekken 8 Players Hit Back Against New DLC Stage
If you take a look at the reviews, many of them mention the stage DLC, which sets you back $4.99. Considering this is on top of the game having both a battle pass and a yearly DLC pass to unlock new characters, the last thing players wanted was yet another paywall.
The stage itself, Genmaji Temple, has been met with very negative reviews since it went live on October 1. However, once again, this is due to its monetisation more than anything else, as many argue that it should have either been free or included in the DLC pass.
This is not the first time that players have review bombed Tekken 8 to make their grievances known. Back in April,Bandai Namco was under fireforthe reveal of the battle pass, known as the fight pass. Many argued that this has no place in a game that already costs $69.99 to play, since battle passes are more often found in free-to-play titles.
However, it does seem that fighting games often find themselves at the forefront of controversial monetisation practices. Long gone are the days of unlocking characters as you play, as almost all of the main franchises have moved to live service-like models, with new characters added in waves of DLC. It remains to be seen if Tekken 8 can earn back some goodwill with its community after this latest controversy.
