Summary
Update: 15-06-2025 22:33PM BST - Despite removing all real world politics from the mod,Thatcher’s Techbase has been removed from Bethesda’s mod browser by the moderation team once again. Original story follows.
Thatcher’s Techbase is a mod forDoomand Doom 2 where you descend to the depths of hell to face an unspeakable evil - former United Kingdom prime minister Margaret Thatcher.
The mod has been popular since its release in 2021 and was previously available on consoles through Bethesda’s mod browser. Unfortunately, the moderation teameventually removed the mod, citing “real-world politics” as the reason.
Now, while most people would probably accept the loss on this one and remain satisfied with the mod still being available on PC, Thatcher’s Techbase creator Jim Purvis is not one of those people and he would never leave behind his console community because of a mere setback.
Purvis has announced [Redacted]’s Techbase, a “non-political” version of his mod that has been re-released for consoles. Purvisposted several screenshots of his new creation on X, showing the steps taken to tone down the political realities of his mod.
Thatcher has been covered by a smiley face on the mod’s cover art, and the scary real-world politics on the monitor have been replaced with tasteful pictures of Todd Howard. Also, Thatcher’s in-game model is covered with a big block that says ‘censored’, and her portraits have been changed to silhouettes.
The propaganda employed by Thatcher’s conservative party in the 1980s tastefully scattered throughout the mod’s environments have been replaced by more gamer-friendly posters. “Warning: No Politics, No Religion, No Drama Zone,” reads one. “Victory to the gamers,” says another.
“The team here at 3D: Doom Daddy Digital has worked tirelessly to remove all references to real-world politics from Thatcher’s Techbase and create a Doom mod that can be enjoyed by all gamers, regardless of political persuasion,” says Purvis.
According to Purvis, his new-look mod is available on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
