Every single resource inFrostpunk 2is important, and all of them are going to be required in one way or another. Balancing your acquisition of all of these resources is going to be one of your primary concerns—and one of the more difficult aspects—in Frostpunk 2.
That said, some resources are valued a little differently than others. Some resources are an inconvenience to run low on, while running low on others may as well start a klaxon. These resources need to be valued above all and might just get hoarded at the expense of others.
7Coal
The first two resources on this list go hand in hand, though they’re both going to be familiar faces for a long time. Coal is going to be at the forefront of your mind in the early going of Frostpunk 2; running out of coal means running out of heat, which is a resource in and of itself.
There are going to be more and more efficient ways to extract and use coal as you progress, but the fact is going to remain, for a long time, that you need coal. It is a limited resource in more or less every instance, and stockpiling it for a rainy day (snowy day?) is a good plan. A hefty stockpile will mean you can shift your workforce around as needed when things are good and have a stockpile to fall back on when things are tough.
6Oil
The other big resource in regard to heat is oil. Oil is not going to be a concern in the very early going, but it’s going to be possibly your most valuable resource as things go along. It will more or less replace coal for a similar use, though coal’s still going to stick around for a long time.
While coal and oil are limited in quantity, there are ways to set up nearly limitless access to them at the cost of causing some minor issues in other departments. The benefits far outweigh the drawbacks, and oil is going to be a resource you’re glancing at often.
5Food
Unsurprisingly, you’re going to need food to keep everything going. It’s going to be a consistent factor forever, though it isn’t something that’s too terribly difficult to maintain for large stretches, provided you keep on top of it.
It’s also something you’re going to want to stockpile as much of as you can. Like other resources, it is not infinite, and the nearly limitless spots to harvest food are not plentiful. Expanding to maintain your food economy is something you’re eventually going to have to do, and having a food stockpile to lean back on is going to make that search less stressful.
4Heatstamps
Heatstamps act as, essentially, currency. It’s something your population is going to use, and it’s something you’re going to be constantly needing to do more or less anything. Most buildings and districts you create take heatstamps to build, and you accrue a certain amount of heatstamps every day.
There’s no need to build stockpiles of heatstamps, but the amount you accrue each day depends on your population size, certain laws, and whether or not you’re maintaining your goods production at a level that your population finds acceptable. Both goods and heatstamps go hand in hand because of this, so keep an eye on them both as if they’re tethered.
3Cores
Cores are one of the harder-to-find resources and one of the most limited. Cores are primarily found when exploring the Frostlands outside of New London, and you usually aren’t going to find more than a few at a time.
Each of these cores is used to create specialized buildings; these buildings have some of the most beneficial effects of any in Frostpunk 2, and they’re going to be crucial to keeping you afloat, especially as some of your resource deposits start to dwindle. Don’t be afraid to use these cores, but don’t be wasteful with them, either.
2Workforce
You’re going to need workforce to get anything done; if the generator is the beating heart of your city, then your workforce is your city’s soul. Like your heatstamp generation, your workforce is dependent on your population. The higher your population, the higher your workforce.
There are other factors that go into it, too, like certain laws that restrict or allow certain groups of people to work, as well as how many people in your city areinjured or sick. Keep on top of the disease and limit factors that could injure or kill people on the job, keep your housing flourishing, and ensure you don’t have too many people working on one thing at the expense of another.
1Frostland Teams
Frostland Teams are the brave men and women foraging into the unknown of the Frostlands to keep New London afloat. What they do is a dangerous job, and going on the wrong expedition can get them injured or killed.
But going on the right expedition is going to bring back resources that New London desperately needs. Most resource deposits in Frostpunk 2 are limited, meaning you’re going to have to eventually find new ones. That’s the job of your Frostland teams, as well as setting up andmaintaining connections to these faraway deposits.
