Fossil Pokemon are fantastic and Aerodactyl is one of the most iconic. In the games, Aerodactyl can be brought back using DNA found inside Old Amber. In the anime, Aerodactyl is also the Pokemon responsible for causing Ash’s Chameleon to Evolve into the iconic and lazy Charizard.

In thePokemon TCGfossil Pokemon have always had some sort of special ruling that requires you to play a Fossil before getting it on the field. However, which of these cards are worth digging up? From magnificent full arts to old prehistoric finds, these are the eight most valuable Aerodactyl cards in the Pokemon TCG.

8Aerodactyl Fossil Rare $11.51

Aerodactyl Swoops In Thrice

Fossil is one of the most iconic retro sets of the Pokemon TCG. It also introduced a new mechanic in which Fossil Pokemon such as Aerodactyl must first Evolve from a Mysterious Fossil card. This makes the original Aerodactyl and other future printings a Stage One Pokemon.

Despite not being the rarest version of this particular card, its rarity in the original set and the time that has passed since its release has seen it go up in price. It also helps when this card has the first edition stamp on the left corner. If you have this card in your collection, you’ve got a prehistoric treasure in your hands.

Aerodactyl GX Pokemon TCG Card Art.

7Aerodactyl GX Rainbow Rare $12.97

Even Dinosaurs Dream Of Rainbow

Released inthe Unified Minds set, Aerodactyl GX not only got regular printing but a rainbow rare as well. The reflective gleam looks amazing when you tilt it side to side and the texture is also nice to the touch.

Its Ability, Primal Winds, causes your opponent’s Basic Pokemon to spend one more Energy than usual to perform their Moves. This can help stall your opponent’s strategies, while Boulder Crush can get them out of the way with 120 damage. Wild Dive GX takes advantage of your opponents attaching more Energy to their Pokemon by hitting for 50 damage for each one they attach to their Active Pokemon.

Skyridge Aerodactyl Pokemon TCG Card Art.

6Aerodactyl Skyridge $15.07

A Prehistoric E-Reader Card

It wouldn’t be a popular Pokemon without at least one E-Reader printing. The Skyridge setcontains one valuable Aerodactyl that can be scanned on an E-Reader to get its Pokedex information on your Game Boy Advance. This little gimmick causes many E-Reader cards to have some niche value in the market.

The card depicts Aerodactyl flying through underground caverns. Its Poke-Power, Ancient Wind, shuts down all other Poke-Bodies while this card is your Active Pokemon. It seems that all Aerodactyl have some sort of effect that delays advancement. This one also has a Move called Rising Lunge which does 20 or 40 damage depending on a coin flip.

Legend Maker Aerodactyl Pokemon TCG Card Art.

5Aerodactyl Legend Maker $19.78

A Legend Reborn

While most Pokemon Types have a specific Energy card that provides one Energy, Colorless doesn’t usually get these printings. During the Legend Maker era of the TCG, Colorless Energy became available in the form of React Energy. It provides one Energy and nothing else. However, Pokemon like Aerodactyl have special Poke-Bodies that take advantage of being loaded up with these Energy cards.

For each React Energy attached to Aerodactyl, your opponent’s attacks do ten less damage. It’s a neat little protective buff. Its Moves are also buff based with Power Blow dealing ten additional damage for each Energy attached to it, and Speed Stroke dealing 40 and protecting Aerodactyl from damage or status effects.

Aerodactyl Wizards of the Coast Pokemon TCG Card Art.

4Aerodactyl Wizards Of The Coast Prerelease $24.73

Fossil Aerodactyle Swoops In Again

Prerelease events are nothing new, and they happened even during the original few sets that were released for the first generation. This Aerodactyl has prerelease stamped on the bottom right of the card art. It also has a special holographic foiling that gives it that unique look to it.

Once again, this version of the card also has the first edition stamp on the left side. Its Pokemon Power is Prehistoric Power. While this card is your Active Pokemon, it stops your opponent from Evolving their Pokemon, which is a killer tactic for keeping them weak.

Holo Aerodactyl Pokemon TCG Card Art.

3Aerodactyl Fossil Holo $64.47

Better Keep This Fossil Preserved

While prerelease cards can be worth a lot due to their limited printings, sometimes you just can’t beat the original. This is the holo rare version of the Aerodactyl from the Fossil Set. If you wanted this card, you would have had to have pulled it when the set was still around.

Pokemon has always been popular with kids, so the odds that many of these copies were used in the playground or regular matches are high. This wear and tear makes many of the cards available drop in price. However, for a card that has been preserved through the ages, this Aerodactyl can be worth quite a bit.

Aerodactyl EX Pokemon TCG Card Art.-1

2Aerodactyl EX Sandstorm $65.00

No Items In The Cretaceous

Aerodactyl EX from the Sandstorm set is another pretty card to add to your collection. Like many EX cards of the time, the holographic foiling covers the card’s borders instead of the art. This printing is also an E-Reader card, which makes it unique among Aerodactyl cards.

This Pokemon sends your opponent back to the Stone Age by stopping them from using Pokemon Tools. Also, any Pokemon that has a Tool when Aerodactyl EX is played gets it taken away and discarded. It’s a simple but pretty useful way of clearing the board of unwanted cards for that extra advantage.

Aerodactyl V Pokemon TCG Card Art.

1Aerodactyl V Alternate Full Art $101.97

When Fossil Pokemon Ruled The World

Aerodactyl V may not be the most powerful card inthe Lost Origin set, but it does have an alternate full art that will make any dinosaur lover happy. This card features Aerodactyl flying over a prehistoric region before all the Pokemon eventually became fossils. This is Aerodactyl in its natural habitat.

There are Carracosta swimming in the ocean and Archeops high in the sky. Rampardos move in herds and Bastiodon graze on the grass. It’s the perfect depiction of a prehistoric Pokemon era and a must-have for collectors who love fossil Pokemon. So keep it safe and perhaps, in the future, you may dig this card up again and watch it spike.
