You know you’re onto something good when Supergiant Games, an indie studio that doesn’t generally make sequels, makes a sequel to their most ambitious game until now, Hades. Now, the sequel has some big, gorgeous shoes to fill, but if you’re going by anything they’ve put out so far, you know thatHades 2is shaping up to fulfill that task easily.
Melinoe and crew bring a lot of new elements to the already quick and masterful gameplay from the previous installment of the series. This ranges fromnew bosses and Greek godsto learning incantations and making new friends by gifting familiars. Craft enough Witch’s Delight, and let’s verify you find your favorite friend. If you haven’t played the game since before the Olympus update, fear not! As long as you’ve performed the Faith of Familiar Spirits incantation, you’re primed and ready for the new familiar to join your fight against Chronos.
4Raki The White Raven
Pecks The Eyes Of Your Enemies
Raki isn’t a simple bird waiting for you at the entrance of the crossroads. No, he’s going to make youlook for him throughout Erebus, only to run off and disappear until you happen to find your way into a fountain room where he happens to be relaxing. If you do, talk to him again, and this time, he’ll be more than willing to join Melinoe in her exploits.
Once you choose Raki to roll with you, he grants you several perks while you’re on your travels:
The mining boost and critical hit boosts are great and can help you make a crit build when possible, but there’s nothing like watching this little terror in white attacking any enemies brave enough to get in your way! It’s said that white ravens were considered the messengers of the Sun God Apollo, and they delivered the message of pain to the shades and various bosses. Have Fun, White Raven.
3Hecuba The Hound
Deserves All The Pets
The Hecuba of mythology and the Hecuba of Hades 2 couldn’t be any more different if they tried.In ancient mythology, she is recognized as the queen of Troy, whose son is the catalyst of the Trojan War when he eloped with the infamous Helen of Troy. As of now, it’s only slightly alluded to that this may be the Queen of Troy, according to some of Hecate’s musings, but until the game is fully released, there’s no real way of knowing just yet.
Hecate isn’t going to justgiveyou her familiars; you’re going to have to meet and give them treats a few times before Hecate warms up to the idea of Hecuba becoming your familiar.
Once she gives you the okay, then you’re free to give them a Witch’s Delight and welcome them to your team.
Once you follow all of that and gain Hecuba, this good doggo comes with several bond perks to help you along your way:
For now, Hecuba is the only familiar of Hecate that you’re allowed to recruit. However, because of this, it’s a safe bet that Gale the Polecat will be able to join you on your runs in the future. Who knows, there may be even more than that once the game is fully released.
2Frinos The Frog
The First Familiar To Join You
If you’ve been around since early access started, then you most likely already have your amphibious friend joining you on your adventures. If you don’t, fear not! Frinos is incredibly easy to recruit once you’ve performed the incantation. He can be found just outside of Melinoe’s tent, as if he had been waiting for you all along.
On your journey, you’ll encounter several Lost Shades, wayward spirits that were scattered when Cronos took over the underworld. You’d typically have to use the Tablet of Peace to play a mini-game that would pacify them and send them to the crossroads but takes up an item slot. With Frinos accompanying you, not only will you free up your tool slot, but you’ll skip the mini-game altogether while your loyal frog friend sends them to the crossroads with no fuss.
That’s not all he’s capable of, either. When you unlock him, he’ll have the following skills:
And, as if that weren’t enough, he can eat projectiles aimed at you, keeping you safe while you face off against Titans. He’s a good friend and will have your back.
1Toula The Cat
Knows Where All The FIsh is At
The familiar that starts it all! you’re able to’t getanyfamiliars without Toula’s express permission. How do you get it? By meeting her a few times on the surface and beating Hecate herself with all your gathering tools equipped, as well as beating Polyphemus. Only then will you be able to recruit this feline cutie.
Once you coax her into joining you, she turns out to be a valuable addition. She will point her claws at anyone attacking you with no hesitation. Her skills include:
While the other familiars seem as though their skills are much better than our furry friend, remember that the gift of extra life, especially in the Hades games, can make or break your entire run, making her the top choice for fighting your way to the top.
