Horrorstories can whisk you from the comfort of your everyday life into a dark and dangerous world where anything could happen. Fears To Fathom captures the terror of internet horror stories and turns them into short experiences you can play through.
While horror can be a subjective genre due to the variety of fears at play, five total horror stories will attempt to tug at those fears from different angles. Each one follows its main character and has choices to make as you navigate through the story. So which stories stand on top? Here is every episode of Fears to Fathom ranked.
5Home Alone
Someone Is In The House
Home Alone is the starter story to get you into the groove of what Fears to Fathom has to offer. There aren’t many twists and turns to this one, but the scenario is relatable to a wider audience. Who hasn’t been left home alone only to feel like there’s someone in the house with them? The worst part is you have no slapstick traps to catch whoever is lurking around.
While most of the time it’s simply the imagination of the person in the situation, this time there actually might be someone creeping around. Some of the best horror stories manage to hit their scares due to a relatable character or situation. It’s what makes the reader look over their shoulder once they’re done. Home Alone has this effect and while it may not be the best episode of the bunch, it still manages to immerse you in theVHS style and Reddit horrorthat the rest of the episodes are built on.
4Carson House
House Sitting Gone Wrong
Carson House is the third episode of Fears to Fathom and takes a different approach to the setup that was featured in Home Alone. This time you are only somewhat alone, but you are not in your own house. Instead, you are house-sitting for a neighbor. While the episode keeps the setting of the first episode, it expands on it by having you run errands for the owner of the house, such as feeding the dog and going out for groceries in the middle of the night.
The episode also provides a camera game mechanic that almost makes this entryfeel like a Five Nights At Freddy’s game. While using the camera might seem like it gives away a few of the scares, just try not using it at all and see what happens. The buildup for this episode can provide plenty of scares, which is why it is considered one of the scarier episodes of the game. If anything keeps the episode from surpassing some of the others, it’s that the tone does not have the same feeling of isolation as some of the other episodes.
3Norwood Hitchhike
Hitchhikers And Monsters
Woodbury Getaway takes you out of your neighborhood and onto the open road. You are no longer waking up in the middle of the night as you explore the house, but rather you take a more active role in a bigger narrative. This one has more varied gameplay with more dialogue choices, driving sequences, and multiple locations.
The episode starts with a driving sequence before you end up stranded in the middle of the road. Nothing is scarier than being stranded in the middle of the night with no lights until you realize that flagging down a random stranger for a ride is even worse. The episode plays on paranoia and the vulnerability that comes with being forced to stay somewhere unfamiliar. The episode does give you a few clues about what the twist will be, which have you looking back throughout the episode to spot everything right in your face the whole time. It’s a solid horror story that sheds light on the true monsters of the world.
2Ironbark Lookout
A Fresh Setting
Ironbark is the first story to take you out of a familiar setup and thrust you into something new. This time, you are a fire watch ranger being transferred over to a new station. It’sa night out in the woodsmaking it the perfect setting for some scares. Luckily, you aren’t quite alone as you can contact another ranger at a distant station. The sun will eventually rise and fall again as a sudden smoke signal prompts you to go investigate.
As you walk through the dark forest there are a few hints that all is not as it seems. This looming sense of dread elevates the sense of horror that was missing during the outdoor portions of the Carson House. There are strange noises in the woods, figures creeping among the trees, and ominous dialogue that will have you on the edge. Ironbark Lookout combines all these elements for a truly frightening horror experience. It also introduces light voice acting to the series.
1Woodbury Getaway
Winter Is Coming
Woodbury Getaway is by far the most ambitious episode of the Fears To Fathom series. Air B&B may be a more cumbersome choice when traveling but some folks, such as the main protagonist of Woodbury Getaway, have chosen this as their lodging for their Winter trip. However, all is not what it seems, as there is a mysterious person who may or may not be who he says he is. There is also a mysterious door in the basement that you should stay away from.
This story will genuinely scare you and make you question which characters are to be trusted and which aren’t.The twist at the end of the game also hits hard, since all the pieces were already there to begin with. There are also enough hidden details that will have you piecing together not only the past but what comes next after the story. This episode looks better than any of the previous episodes and has plenty of locations to keep things fresh. From Ouija Boards to Moe’s Diner, Fears to Fathom feels bigger than ever before.
