InThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Zelda finally takes the reins and uses the power of echoes to save Link and all of Hyrule. The echo abilities you have access to range from something you’ll only ever summon once to an echo always at the top of your Most Used filter.
However, some echoes have abilities and uses that you wouldn’t expect or are not obvious at first glance. These unique echo abilities can be game-breaking, allowing you to access previously unreachable corners of Hyrule or become used as clever solutions to otherwise troublesome puzzles or dungeons.
8Beds
One of the first few echoes you learn, the bed is one ofthe most useful toolsfor traversal as well as being a way to recover hearts. If you haven’t slept in the starting bed long enough to notice, you will slowly recover half a heart every five or so seconds.
This is useful to save yourself from having to drink potions or smoothies, and has no limit, allowing you to fully heal yourself outside of danger. You can upgrade to the Soft Bed found in the Gerudo Desert, or Zelda’s Bed after a certain part of the story, which doubles and quadruples your healing rate, respectively.
7Crow
Hinted at in their text box in the Notebook page, Crows are a basic, flying monster echo which also causes monsters to drop rupees when struck. This is one of the few ways to grind for money, especially early in the game when most items are too expensive to buy.
Every time an enemy is struck by a crow for the first time, they will drop six green rupees with one having a chance to be red or blue. Crows will also pick up rupees for you, and having six diving crows in a field of enemies is a quick way to earn plenty of money without having to move.
6Holmill
Seemingly only useful in 2D areas with sand barriers, Holmill can dig tunnels for you to traverse otherwise blocked parts of the map or dungeons. However, Holmills can also be used to dig up treasure in hidden locations around Hyrule.
These can be rupees, smoothie items, or Might Crystals, and are best found by looking for lone patches of dirt surrounded by grass or snow. Holmills are also required to obtain certain heart pieces, such as the one in the cave just east of Kakariko Village.
5Flying Echoes
A familiar tactic to anyone picking up a cucco in most Zelda titles, you can use one as a glider while jumping or falling off ledges to gently fall to the ground or reach distant ledges. While you can do so with cuccos in Echoes of Wisdom, it applies to all echoes that fly.
Pulling it off right away is also a little tricky, as you need to grab it as soon as you summon it before it flies away, which can be a problemin certain dungeonswhere it can be useful. These echoes will also drop you when damaged, so make sure the path is clear before taking off.
4Crawltula
Like inBreath of the WildorTears of the Kingdom, finding ways to experiment with the tools can lead to unexpected and surprisingly useful results. This is also true for Crawltulas in Echoes of Wisdom, as they can be used to easily scale steep walls.
You do this by aiming at the wall and summoning a Crawltula, then binding with it and using the Follow button. The Crawtula will then carry you up cliffs of any height, but verify the path is clear of enemies, or it will get distracted and likely cause you to fall all the way back down.
Eventually, you can use the Cloud echo to traverse straight upwards without a wall.
3Pots
Seemingly only useful for throwing at enemies before you get the rock, the pot is surprisingly handy in a handful of situations that are otherwise painfully annoying or difficult. The first is that you can climb inside the pot and hide from patrolling enemies, which comes back in a big way later in the story.
Secondly, it will prevent the scream ability that ReDeads use to stun all nearby echoes, including you. While you’re able to’t attack while inside the pot, this will help you navigate the Gerudo Desert and certain dungeons without stopping every few seconds to become completely immobile.
You climb inside the pot automatically when you jump on top of it.
2Water Block
One of, if not the mostuseful non-monster echoin the game, water blocks are stackable, traversable, freestanding blocks that you can use to get around almost any obstacle. In combat, water blocks can be a way to quickly dispatch enemies one at a time.
You do this by binding to enemies with Tri and dragging them into a placed water block, instantly drowning them. This is one of the simplest ways to break the game, and can even be stacked high enough to drown flying enemies with enough points.
1Gustmaster
An annoying, purple orb that doesn’t attack or move while blasting gusts of air in all directions, Gustmasters are a bad choice of echo in almost any situation, sometimes even sending you flying off a ledge. However, their ability to push enemies and stop projectiles comes in handy more often than you’d expect.
This includes all projectiles from all enemy types, allowing you to quickly make a path through a crowd of enemies without taking any damage, as long as you are carrying it over your head as soon as you summon it. Just be wary that it only blasts a handful of times before becoming dormant in your hands.
