It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that quests form the backbone of content inFinal Fantasy 14, and that is still the case in its most recent expansion: Dawntrail. You will be picking up quest after quest in your never ending journey of unlocking content, exploring the world around you, and experiencing the vibrant characters that inhabit Tural, the expansion’s setting.
Every quest is unique, from regular side quests to (especially) the main scenario questline, but some are a cut above the rest in terms of what you’re able to get out of them. Be mindful of spoilers as we take you through some of the best quests Dawntrail has to offer.
8A New Dawn, A New Hunt
One of the earliest things you can do when you reach Tuliyollal at the start of Dawntrail is to take this feature quest that unlocks the hunt board in town. While the quest itself is very short, and doesn’t have much plot or lore, you still want to go out of your way to unlock the content behind it.
Hunts are incredibly useful and have a lot of great rewards behind them, including a unique mount. Keep in mind that this quest is only the first one in a quest chain; as your level increases, keep checking back tounlock more advanced huntsand thus reap even greater rewards.
7Trial By Spire
While on the subject of feature quests that unlock things, Trial By Spire is an important quest for you to do if you plan on joining Final Fantasy’s raiding scene. This quest will unlock the Spire of Trial, Dawntrail’s version of Stone, Sky, Sea.
Stone, Sky, Sea is an area that allows you to practice against training dummies while trying to hit HP targets based on the game’s extreme or savage content. It is a great tool to use to see if you are hitting DPS requirements to clear the content you set it to.
6The Hunter And The Hunted
Role quests have been a thing since Shadowbringers, and Dawntrail is continuing the tradition of giving players five separate questlines to choose from based on the role of your job. There is a quest for Tank, Healer, Melee DPS, Physical Ranged DPS, and Magical Ranged DPS.
The Melee DPS quest in particular, starting with The Hunter and the Hunted, is a very fun questline that takes you back to Kugane and Othard on the hunt for a shapeshifter causing chaos in the region. There is plenty of story, fun, and tension throughout the quest chainto keep you engaged.
5Your Friendly Neighborhood Metalworker
The counterpart to battle role quests are the Wachumeqimeqi Deliveries for crafters and gatherers. They function like role quests, giving you five different questlines to follow based on your particular job and task you with saving the economy of Tuliyollal.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Metalworker is for blacksmiths, armorers, and goldsmiths and places you right in the middle of a skilled, but stubborn master and an inexperienced, but determined apprentice. Help them, and the other traders of Wachumeqimeqi, save the market district!
4Something Stray In The Neighborhood
Once you complete the final main scenario quest of Dawntrail, you open up a plethora of content to unlock and participate in. These quests can involve dungeons, raids, trials, and more to fill your time while waiting for the next part of the expansion’s main story to come out.
Something Stray in the Neighborhood unlocks one of the level 100 dungeons that will become a part of your expert roulette called the Straybourough Deadwalk. It is a creepy, haunted amusement park filled with unique enemies and fun bosses to fight, so make sure to take this quest as soon as you can.
3It Belongs In A Museum
Just like Something Stray in the Neighborhood, It Belongs in a Museum unlocks another level 100 dungeon for you to challenge. This dungeon in particular is a true treat for long-time fans of the game, filled with fun fights, but also striking similarities to a certain character and area from Shadowbringers.
While traveling through Tender Valley, the dungeon in question, you will eventually come across ruins that bear remarkable similarity to the ruins of the Ronka in the Rak’Tika Greatwood from Shadowbringers. The boss at the end is a nod to a popular “great” character found in Shadowbringer’s side quests.
2A New Challenger Approaches
A New Challenger Approaches will begin your raiding adventure in Dawntrail and is a very fun questline in itself. Not only are the fights you unlock fun and challenging, but the story of the raid series is interesting and captivating to watch.
Final Fantasy 14’s raid series have always had fan-favorite stories attached to them, and Dawntrail is no exception. Some fans go so far as to say that raid storylines are sometimes even better than the main storyline in certain cases, so these quests are not to be skipped.
1The Main Scenario Quest
The quest that everyone will always experience, no matter what, is the main scenario quest, or MSQ. All other forms of content and feature quests are locked behind story progression, so these quests are incredibly important to complete. It also helps that the story of Final Fantasy 14 is considered one of the best in MMOs and RPGs in general.
While Dawntrail’s story has received rather mixed reviews, due in large part to the completion of the previous 10+ year story arc that ended in Endwalker, it is still a fun adventure to be had and most of the quests in the MSQ still have that Final Fantasy 14 magic.
