Metal Slug Tacticstakes the popular franchise into a whole different genre, combining tactical gameplay with roguelike features that breathe new life into the series with turn-based combat. That allows characters to have their own specialties, which is extremely helpful in planning strategies for the many missions available.
All nine protagonistshave different loadouts that radically change the way you’re able to use them on the battlefield. On top of that, they also have a wide array of unique Skills at their disposal, and picking the best ones each time you level your characters up is key to winning many runs in Metal Slug Tactics.
Marco - Tactical Strike And Field Dressing
Marcois a jack of all trades, but you’ll look to deal as much damage as possible with him. That’s why Tactical Strike is the best Special Action you can pick for him. It deals tons of damage in a wide area, allowing you to eliminate many enemy units at once.
For his Passive, Field Dressing goes great with any loadout. The skill heals allies when Marco uses a Special Action on them. Even better, Marco can use that Passive on himself if he’s in trouble.
Runner up: Ricochet
This Special action fires two projectiles that deal the same amount of damage, but the second projectile starts from the first one’s point of impact.
Eri - Grenade Juggler And Raptor
The explosives expertErican deal damage in many ways, but paying attention to her movement can also change the tide of the battle. For her Special Action, you may’t go wrong with Grenade Juggler, which throws two different explosives that deal damage in a small area.
Raptor is a great Passive for Eri. It adds one point of DMG dealt to targets that are located at a different elevation than Eri. Her arsenal allows her to do this quite often, so it can come in handy more often than not.
Runner up: Enemy Chaser
This Special Action is similar to an airstrike but allows you to target three different units in a large range.
Fio - Nudge And Multitasking
Fiois a great support character in Metal Slug Tactics and you should focus on her Skills over her damage output. Nudge is by far her best Special Action because it allows her to move either enemy or ally units at will. This can save your teammates from certain deaths or position a soldier right in the line of fire.
Multitasking, on the other hand, is a Passive that lets Fio use a Special Action without consuming her turn as long as she doesn’t deal damage.
Runner up: Acupuncture Boost
This Special Action applies Protection on an ally (or herself), so the next time they’re attacked, it cancels all DMG taken. Additionally, Fio gains a bonus action.
Tarma - Mimic And Regeneration
To successfully useTarmaas a tank, you’ll need to move him a lot to build momentum with enough Dodge. With that in mind, Mimic is the best Special Action you may pick for him early on. Once you activate it, Tarma will attack any unit that attacks him for the remainder of the turn.
Combine Mimic with the Passive Regeneration to have Tarma healing himself constantly after luring enemies and you’ll complete missions swiftly.
Runner up: Slug Kick
This powerful kick deals massive damage in a limited range. It’s a Special Action that ignores cover and allows Tarma to keep his Dodge points for an additional turn.
Nadia - Mine Skipping And Tesla Ammo
Nadiacan be a menace on the battlefield as long as you make good use of her bots and mines. Mine Skipping is a Special Action that deploys two mines the same way Marco’s Ricochet and Eri’s Grenade Juggler do. If you already have a bot placed, you’ll have your enemies surrounded in no time.
Then, with the Tesla Ammo Passive skill, Nadia can use her special weapon as much as she wants without consuming ammo. All you have to do is stay close to your mines, so keep that in mind.
Runner up: Coil Blast
The Special Action deals decent damage to all enemies adjacent to Nadia and her bots, meaning it can cover a lot of ground.
Trevor - Nano Knives And Hive Mind
Nano Knives is the go-to Special Action forTrevorsince his whole deal is to apply Mind Control on enemies. The Nano Knives Skill does this at close range, but you can attack a couple of enemies at once to get better results.
Then, unlocking the Hive Mind Passive will allow mind-controlled units to deal one more point of damage while also applying Slow on their targets. Trevor can control the battlefield with these powerful abilities, keeping many enemies away from your allies.
Runner up: Eclipse
Applying Eclipse on Trevor makes him attack adjacent units anytime he’s attacked until the start of the next turn. Additionally, Trevor gains one Dodge point per enemy attacked.
Ralf - Explosive Strike And Bulletproof
Similar to Tarma,Ralfis a great tank, and that’s all thanks to Skills that add Dodge and lure enemies close to him. However, if you really want to deal massive damage with Ralf, you should go with the Explosive Strike Special Action. It deals damage to enemies around Ralf and provokes them. This means they’ll attack him and only him in the next turn.
To make sure Ralf survives long enough, you should get the Bulletproof Passive that can revive him once per mission.
Runner up: Vulcan Punch
This powerful punch is a Special Action that deals damage twice, ignores cover, and uses Ralf’s Dodge to add even more damage.
Clark - Sidestep And Parkour
Clarkis a very versatile character, and since he can fulfill different roles, his most important Skills focus on his movement. Sidestep is his best Special Action because it applies Fragile on the enemies that attack him until the start of the next turn. You can go around the map luring enemies so your allies can finish them off easily in no time.
Combining that with the Parkour Passive will let Clark move over obstacles that don’t block aiming, allowing him to cover larger distances in a turn.
Runner up: Flying Kamikaze
This Special Action grabs an enemy and applies the Sticky Bomb effect on them, on top of dealing some damage. Enemies with Sticky Bomb do damage to adjacent units when eliminated.
Leona - Light Speed And Prism
To masterLeona’s gameplay, you need to make use of her powerful Afterimages. Light Speed is a Special Action that makes Leona attack a nearby enemy, dealing some minor damage. However, that Skill also replicates that attack for each Afterimage on the map so you can deal with enemies out of range.
The best Passive for Leona is Prism, which imbues her Afterimages with Combustion. This makes Afterimages apply Flames on the map, something that always comes in handy.
Runner up: Glint
Glint can be useful to escape hairy situations. It switches the positions of an Afterimage and a unit within range. If the unit is an enemy, it also deals some damage to them.
