There are plenty of ways to enjoyWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. The sequel to the cult-classic Warhammer 40k game that finally puts you into the role of a singular space marine, ready to stop anything that gets in his way.
Titus may be back, but so is multiplayer in Space Marine 2. Now with a host of improved customization options andsome new weapons, this Eternal War mode lets you squad up and fight as genetically modified humans in the grim darkness of the future.
10Use Your Verticals
Jump Packs: Ready
The maps of Eternal War mode have the movement of your space marine in mind. While much of the combat happens on a flat plane, you don’t have to stay on the same level as your enemies in any engagement.
Get the high, or low, ground and surprise your enemies. It takes a second to realize what angle someone is getting hit from, so use that to your advantage and get some solid hits on your enemy before they start shooting back.
This is easier for some classes, like the assault marinesand their jump packs.
9Know Your Class
Each Marine Has Their Strength
Each of the classes has its pros and cons. While there is a slight meta, it is best to understand what each of these classes does, and which of them you’re best at using. No one wants a die-hard assault marine player trying to hold up as a bulwark because the meta says it’s better.
Understand the speed, armor rating, weapons, and especially the special skill for each of these classes, and understand how you enjoy playing them. This goes double for when you squad up with friends, and know who should be a designated class.
8Time Your Dodge
A Tactical Roll
Space marines might be a little more cumbersome in this mode, but that’s still no excuse to not avoid some attacks. Sprinting, and better yet, dodging is a great way to stay in the fight longer. Sometimes those few seconds are all you need.
There is a dashing sort of dodge and a full roll that you can do, both of which are great, but it’s best to just dive for it when there’s a krak grenade thrown at you. Time these right and melee, ranged, and other attacks won’t get you too fast.
7Know When To Back Out
A Tactical Retreat
This one can be a hard one when you’re in the middle of a fight, but it’s best to know when to back down and recuperate for a moment. This goes especially in the game modes where each kill is a point for the enemy.
Dodging around a corner long enough for at least your armor to come back can change the tone of a fight completely, especially if your enemies think they have you on the ropes. This can also be a great time to pull away and flank your enemies.
Codex Astartes Approved
Even though every space marine is a one-man army, it doesn’t help much when your enemies have the same powers that you do. In Eternal War, it can be easy to get overwhelmed by superior numbers, or outgunned by a better player. Or just one that has the drop on you.
To avoid this, make sure to group up with at least a few of your team members. One or two more allies next to you can change the entire balance of an encounter. This goes especially if you combine your special skills.
For example: a sniper can make some devastating hits on enemies while a bulwark keeps them busy with their shield.
5Focus Your Fire
Superior Firepower
When the match gets hectic, it can be compelling to fire at any enemy that shows up on your screen. Avoiding that is a great way to, at the very least, keep your kill count up. Which can be hard when there are a handful of enemy space marines coming at you.
Once you find your preferred target, make sure to focus fire on them and keep whittling down their health. An enemy that’s one hit away from death can do just as much damage as an enemy with full health, so cutting down their numbers is a priority in an engagement.
4Break Them Up
Cause Some Confusion
Just like your own team, an enemy team that is roving around the map together is much deadlier than a lone Astartes. If you come across a group of enemies working in unison, you and your team should split them up.
There are a handful of different approaches to this. Grenades are the most obvious choice, buta tactical marine’sscan ability, or even an assault marine landing among them is enough to send some of them running.
3Time Your Reloads
Pray To The Machine Spirit
The weapons your characters wield are as bulky as they are, something that is quite obvious when you go to reload a bolter or similar weapon. Timing your reloads is key for any multiplayer shooter, but especially so for Space Marine 2.
Find out how long your favorite weapon takes to reload, and then adjust your timing accordingly. This is also a great time to step back and gain a little bit of armor, and then attack your enemy with a better health bar and a full magazine.
2Know Your Range
Not Every Weapon Is A Sniper
Surprisingly to some, there is a damage drop-off for ranged weapons in Space Marine 2. Each of your weapons has a range maximum that it best operates in. It can be hard to gauge what that is, but it is enough to ensure you know what range it’s best to engage in.
Your sidearms and meltas are the ones with the lowest range by far, easily losing power if your enemy is more than a few steps away. Bolters and plasma weapons are a little better off, butthe sniper’s main weaponsare the ones that are practically safe to engage with at most distances.
1Don’t Forget Your Sidearm
A Weapon For Everything
Every walking army needs an arsenal. While you may not carry four weapons at the same time, like in the first Space Marine, you still usually have your melee, main weapon, and a backup pistol of some sort.
Whether bolt, plasma, or otherwise, don’t be afraid to switch to your sidearm when the going gets tough. A change in range, an empty weapon, or to engage in melee are just a few reasons that this may be a viable strategy.
