The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomflips the script by having Zelda take the lead while Link is kidnapped by the evil entity Null. Equipped with a powerful staff that lets her copy objects and creatures, Zelda will have to use some puzzle-solving skills to seal off portals and save the day.
While the game does plenty to make its gameplay some of the most unique of any Zelda game, there are a few things that don’t make sense when you think about it. This goes from some silly gameplay elements to some thought-provoking world-building detail. Here are eight things that make no sense in Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
Why Can’t Zelda Wield A Sword?
Wands Over Swords
The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom focuses on giving Zelda a magic wand that can be used tomake copies of objects and creatures from across Hyruleas Echoes. In a way, this is even more effective than the Master Sword that Link wields, as it allows Zelda to get away with plenty of useful tricks.
However, to wield a sword and use Link’s signature playstyle, Zelda must harness the soul of the hero. It’s a pretty convoluted way of picking up a sword. However, perhaps Zelda just needs more time to focus on mastering the blade.
What Can Zelda Make Echoes Of?
What is the Limit?
With the power to create duplicate creatures and objects, it really makes you wonder what else can be created. Grinding Rupees always requires some form of minigame or finding them scattered across the overworld. So why not just create echoes upon echoes of Rupees as a get-rich-quick scheme?
Or how about enough echoes to make an army of Links? Null is able to create an Echo that fights you during your adventure. Perhaps the Tri Wand needs a little upgrade before such mastery can be achieved. Or perhaps it is the most obvious answer. It’s just a game mechanic.
Why Can’t Null Create Echoes Of The Goddesses?
Even Primordial Villains Have Limits
Null is one ofthe most interesting Zelda villains, having existed before the creation of Hyrule and, to some extent, being on the same level as the Goddesses. Only through their combined efforts could Null be sealed away and creation allowed to exist.
However, Null is pretty powerful as well, with the ability to create Echoes of some of the most important characters in Hyrule. This included Ganon, Link, and in the finale, Zelda as well. It makes you wonder if Null ever considered just winning the conflict instantly by recreating malevolent versions of the three Goddesses. Seems like a surefire way to claim an instant victory.
Does This Take Place Directly After Link’s Awakening?
A Timeline Puzzle
One thing that doesn’t make sense is the current timeline for The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom. Seeing as the game shares a similar artistic rendering to the one seen in Link’s Awakening, you might assume that this is a direct sequel.
Sure, it makes sense that both kingdoms look similar but slightly different due to the fact that Link’s Awakening is possibly loosely based on Link’s real memories. However, the presence of Zora and memories of Ganon are some of the few things that may point to where and when it falls into the Zelda canon. Who knows, perhaps this is all just another Wand of Gamelon situation.
How Did Ganon Come Back?
A False Ganon Detected
Ganon appears at the start of the game and fights Link before the hero is sucked into a portal. Already, this poses many questions. When did Ganon return? Spoiler alert: it is revealed that Ganon is actually an echo created by the true villain of the game. However, this also begs the question. When did Null even manage to collect this echo?
This isn’t the onlyboss that Null manages to manifest along the journey. Volvagia from Ocarina of Time makes a rare appearance in this game as well. Whether this means this takes place before or after those events is unknown.
How Was Null Forgotten In Hyrule History?
A Major Change To The Hyrule Origin Story
The Hyrule origin story has always been simple. Three goddesses created the world of Hyrule, and as they departed from the land, they left behind the Triforce. While this all checks out, there is one additional piece of lore that is revealed in Echoes of Wisdom.
This is the fact that the creation of Hyrule served another purpose outside of being a place for all creatures to thrive. Hyrule is secretly a barrier to keep the entity, Null, at bay. So with wise beings such as the Deku Tree remembering the creation story correctly, how was Null’s role in the story forgotten over time?
How Does No One Know What The Triforce Is?
A Prime Energy
Another vital piece of Hyrule’s history that is seemingly lost to time is the knowledge of the Triforce. In this game, the citizens of Hyrule simply refer to the effects of the Triforce as the Prime Energy. However, key details and later reveals show that this energy that is spoken of can only be the one and only Triforce.
Now, there are many possibilities for why this might be. It wouldn’t be the first time parts of Hyrule’s history have been forgotten, with many games having gaps between them that span generations. Another game that leaves much of the history muddled is Breath of the Wild.
Why Did The Tri Wand Vanish From History?
Another Missing Artifact For Zelda Fans
The Master Sword is one of the most iconic items in The Legend of Zelda. It comes back time and time again to aid Link whenever he really needs it. The origins of this sword are told through Skyward Sword. However, a new item has now entered the mix. This is the Tri Wand, which aids Zelda in defeating Null.
Unlike other items that remain in unknown locations, such as the Ocarina of Time or the Wind Waker, Zelda is shown mounting the Tri Wand within the castle. Therefore, the location of this artifact should be known. At the end of the day, this is an item that was only just added to the story and not something that has been thought about in the past. Whether or not it is ever mentioned again is up to future titles.
