Summary
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomis a very versatile game and that’s because of its titular echoes mechanic. The ability to manipulate the game map by spawning items and the limitless possibilities offered by allowing the player to summon every creature they encounter has led players to find creative solutions to the game’s numerous puzzles and encounters. We’re not quite seeing an exploitation of game mechanics on the level of Tears of the Kingdom just yet, but there have been plenty of discoveries already.
A personal favourite method of mine for dealing with enemies is attaching them using the Tri Rod and simply pushing or pulling them off ledges. It’s similar to how I dealt with problems in Baldur’s Gate 3. However, players have found an even more ingenious method of murder, and it’s done using one of Echoes of Wisdom’s most inconspicuous echoes, the water block (thanks,GamesRadar+).
A Cruel Death
Papapishu on X posted about “the most busted strategy in Echoes of Wisdom.” Put simply, you can place down a water block and drag an enemy into it, allowing them to drown. It’s a cruel way to go, denying enemies the honour of dying at the hands of two angry Moblins is far from humane.
Although clearly effective, this method can be more time-consuming than just plopping down two powerful creatures and moving on. However, I can see a scenario where people get very fast at placing down water blocks and pulling creatures to their inevitable doom.
Players will continue to find ways to creatively use Echoes of Wisdom’s echoes, and it’s probably only a matter of time before we see mind-blowing speedrun strategies. That being said, Nintendo games tend to be technically sound and not easy to break.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom has received critical acclaim since its release on September 26. In their4/5 review of Echoes of Wisdom, executive editor Jade King called it “a warm hug of a video game that enraptured me from start to finish.”
