Houndoom is one of the many Pokemon you’ll find in thePokemon TCGand stands out with some vintage offerings that send newer sets and theirvaluable VMAX offeringspacking. While there’s no denying the value of modern cards, Houndoomtakes a page out of Moltres' book, with a collection of excellent cards from rare vintage sets.
Houndoom boasts some iconic artwork among its best cards, with visually distinct versions of this Dark-type in a similar howling pose. While it’s a difficult decision to pick your favorite Houndoom howl interpretation, there’s plenty of room to appreciate the differences in the most valuable Houndoom cards.
Cards are ordered according to theirTCGPlayerMarket Price, which represents what you might pay on average for a copy of the(first edition, where applicable)cards below.
Given the age and rarity of these cards, only those with anestablished market price on TCGplayerare included.
However, sale prices are vastly different depending on the card’s condition,so this market price is just a rough idea of the card’s value.
6Team Magma’s Houndoom: Team Magma vs. Team Aqua (Holo Rare) – $47.12
A Member Of Team Magma
Team Magma’s Houndoom starts things off with an unusually calm depiction of this Dark-type Pokemon as it sits in front of Team Magma’s iconic crest, signifying its allegiance. Although this Houndoom is somewhat bland considering the designs to come, it still boasts both of this Pokemon’s signature colors: black and red.
The holo version of this card sells for much more than the reverse holo foil, with the former capping out around the$49 mark in near-mint (NM) condition. From there, lightly played(LP)copies can range between $22 and $27, with moderately played(MP)dropping to $20 followed by heavily played(HP),coming in at closer to $14.
5Houndoom: Neo Discovery (Holo Rare) – $84.82
A Terror In The Night
Even though it doesn’t enter into the contest for the best depiction of Houndoom howling at the moon, this incredible artwork still features an iconic depiction of this Pokemon.
While it can’t compete withsome of the most expensive cards in Neo Discovery,Houndoom still earns a spot among the top ten in that set.
This Houndoom is an incredibly difficult card to find in any condition once you start searching for first-edition copies, though some have been sold on TCGplayer in recent times. An MP copy commanded about $63, while LP jumped to $77 before NM broke the meter by selling for $130.
4Dark Houndoom: Neo Destiny (Holo Rare) – $169.99
A Toon World Makeover?
This Houndoom card will have you doing a double take, as the art style is eerily reminiscent of the ‘Toon’ monsters from Yu-Gi-Oh! which feature mischievous monsters, like Houndoom. While this card stands in the realm of Pokemon, its distinct style sets it apart from its peers asone of the most eye-catching Houndoom artsavailable.
Even though it can’t hold a candle to some ofthe most expensive cards in Neo Destiny, this fantastic first edition card commands a significant premium over the unlimited version. While you will struggle to find clean copies, ones inHP condition still command $55,leaving a huge blank slate for MP, LP, and NM copies to fill in with future sales.
3Houndoom: Aquapolis (Holo Rare) – $246.10
Lonely Near The Top
This stunning Houndoom scene and gorgeous background are perfect examples of what makes a good Houndoom card. Asone of the most valuable cards in Aquapolis, this Houndoom takes your breath away with both its art and price,as this Pokemon performs a death-defying climb to the top of a tiny peak.
Unfortunately, this card is extremely difficult to find in NM conditions, as only cards in LP condition or worse have recorded sales, with $250 representing the top end of the spectrum. While NM sales could easily push this card’s market price up, it will need towait another day to claim the top spot as the most valuable Houndoom card.
2Houndoom: Skyridge (Holo Rare) – $280.00
A Holo Blotch Battle
Skyridge is one of the most famous Pokemon sets ever, with an unparalleled collection of expensive cards among its ranks, not least of which is the first entry into the Houndoom howling contest. This card boasts plenty of room for holo blotching, as is the case with some of the other top-tier choices.
Holo blotches are the large circles you can see reflecting light in the background of this card’s holo pattern.
This Houndoom is easily the most difficult to find, irrespective of condition, as there is only one sale in 2024 to set the market price: anLP copy sold for $280, meaning this card could easily eclipse $300 in NM condition. The future is bright for Houndoom, but more data is needed to say how bright it is.
1Houndoom: Neo Revelation (Holo Rare) – $299.99
Back To The Top
This classic first-edition Houndoom claims the crown as the most valuable Houndoom card, after finishing amongthe best cards in Neo Revelation.Even among the stiff competition, this card stands above the rest, with such a perfect composition that leaves room for holo botching and swirls.
This card’s rarity is a huge selling point,as only two NM copies have sold recently, with many copies in that condition being sent out for grading. With NM at about $300, LP copies that sell between $150 and $200 might be more affordable if you’re not bothered by the condition.
